US pharmaceutical company defends 5,000% price increase

Well, I am assuming that this Albanian piece of shit is not stupid and there is something to his plan. Maybe he plans to make enough money until generics kick in and then reduce prices back to normal, that would be consistent with M.O. of piece of shit like him from WallStreet.

Guys, this drug is a generic.
Wikipedia disagrees. It thinks it's brandname drug with patents expired and no generic

After watching this piece blow up on Twitter Sunday, with The New York Times stepping in and comments on Reddit going viral, Turing and Shkreli are getting hit with a serious backlash. On Monday morning, Democratic presidential contender Hillary Clinton swiftly seized on the controversy, condemning the move as "outrageous" on Twitter and promising to follow up with a plan tomorrow that would stop it. The Nasdaq biotech index dropped 1.8% in morning trading as fears spread that the uproar could lead to legislative changes that would affect the entire industry.
I think big pharma may set that piece of shit on fire themselves :) for risking their business model by being such an extraordinary asshole. If not big pharma then insurance companies, they sure are not happy about giving money to albanian asshole.

Shkreli is also a good argument as to why we ought to go back to confiscatory income tax rates.

If that's the case and $750 is overpriced then there are several companies out there that do generic drug lines.
Yup, the free market will eventually take care of it, until then, if you need the drug, you're fucked. God bless America!

I forgot that preying on the weak is an essential tenet of free marketjism.

I would hope the company could defend its price increase. Whether that defense is convincing is another matter.

Well, piece of shit on his twitter implies that insurance pays for it anyway :)
That is basically his plan - extort money from insurance companies

Of course!

Why didn't we think of that, UHC... the insurance companies will pay for it!

At what point does this become criminally actionable?

How many people should have to die first because of this idiot's "muh proffitz"?

Spock would argue that sacrificing the one for the good of the many is the right course of action. Plus that might give pause to the other people currently engaging in this or thinking about engaging in this.

Piece of shit on his twitter account says his strategy will reduce prices :)
He must have been taking some powerful drugs he developed :)

I checked that piece of shit linkedin and it appears that he has no education at all. If math is correct he started working for piece of shit Jim Crammer at the age of 17-18. The guy thinks he can run pharmaceutical company.

Socialists attempt to haul Shkreli before a kangaroo court

The Infectious Diseases Society of America has also objected to this massive price increase, sending a letter urging Mr. Shkreli's company to "help us improve public health by immediately implementing a rational and fair pricing strategy." The group also warned that toxoplasmosis, the parasitic infection Daraprim treats, would have "severe consequences if not effectively treated in pregnant women, patients with HIV infection, cancers and other conditions that compromise the immune system."

Rather than heeding this request from a group of more than 10,000 infectious disease physicians and scientists, Mr. Shkreli mocked their concerns. When asked how he could sleep at night, Mr. Shkreli tweeted, "you know, ambien."

Yeah, we definitely need to bring back the Terror.

The good news is maybe now the government will get involved in negotiating drug prices.

And this, in a nutshell, is everything wrong with the mentality of the left. Everything must be controlled by the collective. Whenever anything bad happens in any activity that is 98% controlled by the collective and 2% controlled by an individual, always blame the 2% of individual control and crank up the collective control to 99.8%. Repeat until nothing bad happens.

Pyrimethamine is available in India for 5 cents a pill. If we had a free market then in the time since this story broke a dozen people would have loaded their suitcases with Indian pyrimethamine and flown it to America. But then, if we had a free market Shkreli would never have bought the "rights" in the first place. So why is all the bile directed at Shkreli and none of it at the thousands of identifiable legislators and unidentifiable apparatchiks who cooperate in throwing a person in jail for flying a suitcase full of Indian pyrimethamine to America?

Maybe when the 2% controlled by the individual stops fucking things up.

Looks like we have a copycat Trump. I think the thing he needs to learn is corporate malfeasance 101... Stay off the fucking radar!!!

There isn't a case, because then every single drug company that charged more than a penny for a drug would be criminally liable.

Seems to be a lot of text to just say, "I support that piece of shit (sp)."
