California Doing California Things

So centrists, rather than growing up and taking some measure responsibility for the wellbeing of their democracy, chose to abandon their supposed party and throw their weight behind a neo-fascist egotist instead.
I don't think many centrist Democrats voted for Trump. Or do you have a [citation needed] that shows otherwise?

My understanding is that it was the leftist and Muslim Democrats who refused to vote for Kamala because she wasn't . Some voted for Trump, others voted for the likes of Jill Stein.
These were the election results in Dearbornistan:
Gb5tRTCW0AAB9Uz.png

Do you really think that it was centrists who were responsible for that?
It varied by state/region. Musk led an online operation of microtargeting specific demographics. It worked extremely well in Michigan, North Carolina, etc...

But, in general, the key demographic was the suburbs, which it always is. And the economy was the reason Trump won. No other. Women that felt abortion rights were penultimate voted by a large margin for Biden, but split near even between Harris and Trump.

While your obsession with race and religion isn't a shocker, the question to ask is why did more than 2 million fewer people vote for Harris in California than Biden, when Trump received about the same number of votes in 2020. There is a broader issue with the Harris / Democrat campaign. I think the Biden Admin did a crap job selling their accomplishments, but overall, the nation was certain the economy sucked. Incumbents don't do well with poor economies or the impression of a poor economy.

Maybe Eric Swalwell is the single unluckiest person in the world?
Live by the witchhunt, die by the witchhunt.
I like how people like thebeave, Derec, and TSwizzle think rape is a serious charge and Swalwell is entitled to due process... but simultaneously that this is a "witchhunt". Which implies they don't believe the accusations are real at all, from the start, going from Swalwell is innocent until proven guilty to the Swalwell accusers are lying. Which oddly enough, perjury is also a crime, but the women aren't entitled to being innocent until proven guilty as well.

I can't speak for the others but just to be clear, Swalwell has been accused of drugging and raping a woman eight years ago. A very serious allegation which will require investigation before charges can be brought dependent on evidence. At the same time, Swalwell is ironically receiving the same treatment (witch hunt) from the folks around him that Swalwell was gleefully handing out to Kavanaugh as the video clip shows. This thing will run its course through the appropriate channels. It is possible the accuser is either flat out lying or not accurate in what actually happened (it was eight years ago after all) so I don't think there is any reason to jump to conclusions either way but I will say I am skeptical things happened as described.

Yes, I can see people being pissed off at those who see them as "oppressors" simply because they committed the unpardonable sin of being born white, male and straight. This is the cornerstone of intersectional "woke" ideology.
If there were such a thing as a "Woke ideology", that wouldn't be it. How is that "woke" in the slightest? What would one be woke to, if one believed that?

This is, I think, projection. You fear and hate women, gays, and all other races than your own, so you hysterically imagine we must all fear and hate you in the same way and call that Woke. Right? This is, however, an irrational fear.
Sigh.

Everyone who doesn't toe the Woke line must be a bigot.
What is the "Woke Line"?
I can't help but believe you're arguing in bad faith with any of this. The alternative is that you utterly refuse to engage in any sort of introspection, which is eerily similar to the Democratic Party.

Control of Congress?
The White House?
A 6-3 conservative majority on SCOTUS?

Maybe you should ask yourself how things got this way and the role your ideology played in it.
The Virginia Governor race was won in large part because of CRT... ie a fake a issue.

Right-wingers are all up in arms trying to prevent transgenders from competing in women's sports, something that is near non-existent.
P.S. if you aren't aware of what Woke ideology is, I'd be happy to give you numerous examples.
I'm curious. Right now, Trump is responsible for the upcoming global recession. I want to hear about how "Woke Ideology" is responsible, instead of inflation driven by the pandemic and pandemic relief and across the board wage hikes... and about half of the voters looking the other way over that whole January 6th thing.
When I refer to X thing/people being responsible for what Baboon and Co. are doing, I'm referring to the role they played that helped those idiots get into office. I don't care much to talk about the authoritarianism that's consumed the GOP. They're a lost cause and I can only rarely bring myself to outrage after doing so for well over decade now.

Anyway, examples:

Language policing: this seems to go hand in hand with the grating term "micro aggression." The claimed reason for jumping up someone's ass for an innocuous word or two in a casual statement is that they're being corrected for their thoughtless, systematic bigotry. It's a baseless and vicious assumption with little thought behind it.

Cancellation: we've all heard this one before and conservatives are certainly guilty of it too. However, I am firm believer in consistency, so when I see it coming from my side of the spectrum I will absolutely be critical of it. J.K. Rowling, Dave Chapelle, and Dawkins are examples. Each took hits of varying degrees and were harassed without relent on social media for innocuous and even accurate statements.

Identity Politics: similar to the above, both sides do this. What I find it tragic is that too many on the left will cling to what are clearly bad ideas based on well meant principles, which has led to the shutting down of honest and needed discussion. Let's take a trans issue like former men going into women's sports. One would be correct to say that there are very few instances of this and that would be true. However, it is a real issue and what's more important in terms of voting is that the vociferous defense and poo-pooing of concerns on this issue have created the perception that this is representative of Democratic thought.

Entertainment: look at the shit Disney has put out over the last decade. These movies and TV shows have a clear political agenda that clubs the viewer over the head with messaging, the effect of which tells the viewer that if you don't buy into the messaging that something is wrong with you. It's similar to movies like God Is Not Dead except there's billions of dollars behind it. Now, same as Disney, the Oscars are guilty of this too because they've decided that movies without racial quotas will not be considered for nomination.

Families: the term "trad wife" has become a derogatory term directed toward women who want to have a traditional marriage i.e. husband and children. These comments are almost exclusively pointed toward white women and therefore white families.

I could go on e.g. illegal immigration, support of Hamas, antisemitism, the university system, etc.

The theme running through this is social oppression and alienation by few against the many. Even the most outrageous leftist bullshit that's espoused by Reddit users gets out into the wider world and becomes fodder for the GOP. In a country with an antiquated electoral college system all these things matter--a lot. Unfortunately there will be no introspection and exorcise of these destructive voices because being accused of e.g. racism immediately shuts down any possibility of honest discussion. Unless one wants to be harassed and accused of being an awful human being, it's just best to let it go and go about one's daily life of working, paying bills, raising their family, etc.

I've gone on long enough, so I'll wait for any responses that come with this long winded screed.

What was the "innocuous word or two" in question, and what happened to the person who used them?

A person cannot, by definition, have "systemic bigotry". Systemic bigotry is... systemic. If you as an individual choose to use racial slurs, it's likely there are systemic factors, especially if you didn't think it was a slur. But you as an individual cannot be "systemically bigoted", that makes no logical sense.

What "innocuous and even accurate" statements are you referring to, and in what sense were they "canceled"?

What "clear message" is communicated by which programs?

You were asked to define so-called wokeism, but you are struggling to so much as provide clear examples, let alone define an underlying ideology that ties them all together somehow.

One of your examples is just "the university system", no other explanation. Well, I support having a university sysyem. If that's woke, than we need to have woke. Our country cannot survive, it certainly cannot be competitive with other nations, without a university system.

I'm not seeing how this doesn't have a similar side with liberals having their patriotism questioned for saying A or B on social media. The left and right are typically snipping social media.

Dawkins is a poor example because this topic is about stuff the general public knows about and impacted their votes. Rowling wasn't cancelled, Harry Potter is being turned into a series on HBO. People getting upset over people saying things, is this really an issue in the voting booth?

The problem with transgenders in sports was one of science, not politics. The GOP made it a political issue. The scientific question was whether through medication, could a male lose enough male advantage to compete fairly among women. We have data now indicating post puberty, no, not really. However, a few years ago the UCI released a study on gender and competition in cycling and the conclusions indicated that the male chassis will have an advantage, however, there are many more things that give males an advantage over females (which can be seen between how the USWNT team is treated with facilities despite winning the world cup and the USMNT getting the best stuff despite not qualifying for the World Cup without it being by default in a couple Cups).

For transgenders, the left-wing was supporting their right to exist and the right-wing turned it into a holy crusade to stop transgenders from existing. How we manage transgenders is extremely complicated and a conversation needs to be had, but if the left-wing has been a bit less than sympathetic of how women would feel about it, the well was been poisoned by the right-wing on the subject.

Wanna point of specifics, because all I hear when I hear that shit is that it is always whenever so non-white male or female is the lead. From Stars Wars third trilogy which was utter crap and apolitical (but the actresses were absolutely harassed by trolls for no reason other than being female) to Captain Marvel which wasn't crap and also not political but stigmatized with yet another origin story to a black Annie because god forbid we do a Horatio Alger story with a black girl. Hawkeye, Loki, Winter Soldier/The Falcon, Ms Marvel were all good shows for people that like comic shows/movies. The latest films have been a mix. But politics in Guardians 3, Dr. Strange, The Eternals, Shang Chi, where?!

It becomes clear, it isn't about politics, it is about people obsessed with race and gender and can't watch anything without their bigotry seeping into the screen. I don't hear people whining about Daredevil being nothing but woke disability crap.

Well yeah, you'd actually need to demonstrate that shit and it is easier to pretend that is black and white. But the right-wing has done a great job at convincing many it is black and white and those people are immoral and anti-Semites.

People voted for Trump because of prices/inflation, not because of Dawkins or Rowling.

 Ms. Marvel

For the record:
Ms. Marvel is the name of several superheroines appearing in comic books published by Marvel Comics. The character was originally conceived as a female counterpart to the superhero Mar-Vell / Captain Marvel. Like Captain Marvel, most of the bearers of the Ms. Marvel codename gain their powers through Kree technology or genetics. The first incarnation of Ms. Marvel, Carol Danvers, first appeared in Marvel Super-Heroes #13 (March 1968). The third incarnation, Sharon Ventura, debuted in The Thing #27 (September 1985). The second incarnation, Karla Sofen, made her first appearance in Captain America #192 (December 1975). The fourth and current incarnation, Kamala Khan, made her debut in Captain Marvel #14 (August 2013).

Good grief

California is poised to become the first state in the nation to require corporations to declare under oath whether they or their predecessors profited from slavery. AB 2599 — The Truth in Disclosure Act, authored by Assemblymember Isaac Bryan and a top priority for the California Legislative Black Caucus, goes before the Assembly Judiciary Committee on Tuesday, April 14. The bill would require qualifying companies to submit sworn affidavits — subject to perjury penalties — disclosing whether they or predecessor entities engaged in or profited from slavery-era transactions, with all filings posted to a publicly searchable state database.

More woke bs.

That has always been the case. "Cancellation" (or shunning or censorship) has been around for centuries. Hell, Jesus was literally cancelled for his messages.

There has always been identity politics with bad ideas. It is just that when the identity politics align with the person's identity, they tend not to notice.

Transgender issues are not going to go away. I think that these issues are relatively new and are therefore upsetting to many people. But I also think that as time goes by, much of the alarm will dissipate (like the opposition to gay marriage or to assisted suicide) and societies will come to a viable compromise. Maybe not as quickly as some would like, but still a relatively stable stasis.

Entertainment always has had "political" messaging - especially Disney. It is just when a viewer agrees with the message, the viewer doesn't necessarily notice it.
Families: the term "trad wife" has become a derogatory term directed toward women who want to have a traditional marriage i.e. husband and children. These comments are almost exclusively pointed toward white women and therefore white families.
Are you sure about all of that? I know plenty of people who view that term with pride.

I readily admit that there are vocal intolerant assholes of all stripes and ideologies. And with the internet, they are easily recognizable and seen. For some reason, people seem less inhibited about publicly flaunting their asshattery these days.
