I get Derec's ironic point. After all, it is people like Derec and the NRA because they support maniacal SCOTUS decisions that expand 2nd amendment rights which make easy to legally obtain a fire arms and fight against reasonable Constitutional restrictions.

I have been consistent in supporting common sense restrictions on gun ownership.

What I disagree with are those who want to (effectively) ban private gun ownership, and/or those who want to make it illegal to use firearms for self-defense, including in your home.

You can just get a weapon on the street. It isn't legal, but so isn't murder.

Most of the time. But with ghost guns and the like, that is not true.

Edit: Let’s stop pussyfooting around this. As long as firearms are being manufactured and remain legal, there’s no realistic way to keep them entirely out of criminal hands. If you’re comfortable with them being legal, then you’re also accepting the reality that some will end up in the wrong hands. The two go hand in hand.

It's not all or nothing. We can reduce the danger of illegal guns without banning them for law-abiding citizens. Could the Shreveport shooting have been prevented, and how? We would need to know more details, including how he got the gun(s). Hence my non-rhetorical question.

Since 2000 there have been 642 school shootings in USA. 24.7 shootings/pa. One every 2 weeks.
Since 1978 there have been 60 school shootings in Türkiye. 1.27 shootings/pa. One every year.

Türkiye has a problem. USA has a cataclysm.

As noted you can never eliminate the residual risk but the USA doesn't even appear to be trying.
