Immigration Issues

And the tourism industry tanks. Who the fuck would ever want to take a vacation here? Or travel here for business?
Hey, I think it’s a great idea. If they ever expressed a favorable opinion of Trump or of anyone who has ever expressed such a positive opinion, they should be disallowed, and locked up, should they make it to our golden shores.
Fuck Trump, and fuck trumpsuckers, whether they’re ignorant bubbas or greedy rich bastards.

No sane person would do it twice. US Border agents made it quite clear that non-US Citizens were an unwelcome nuisance even back in the '90s when I visited. I had a hotel booking, and an onward plane ticket to London 48 hours later, and they insisted on grilling me about whether I intended to work while I was in the US.

It took extreme patience not to say "Yeah, I plan to set up a shoe-shine business in the departure lounge, in the hope of earning more than my wasted hotel booking is worth, so I can profit from my visit. Who needs sleep after a sixteen hour flight across a dozen timezones anyway?".

Of course, they have neither brains nor sense of humour, so saying that would likely have gotten me jailed.

And that was before 9-11; I dread to imagine what they are like now.

Foreign tourism in the US is clearly not an industry the US Border agents are keen to promote. Maybe they get a kick-back from the Canadians.

The missus and I were planning to visit New England during Canadian trip in 2027 but now might not bother as it seems to be just too much work. Though that might affect our wishing to go on those whale watching cruises up to Alaska

By 2027 we may have given Alaska back to Russia.

On the face of it, this looks like a pretty stupid idea and after a more in depth look, it's still stupid. However, stupid is where the money is these days.

Sifting through every visa applicant's social media and other online data has never been practical because it simply takes too long and requires a bureaucratic network that would cost equal to the Army and Navy combined.

However, if you were a techbro with an AI company, the sales pitch writes itself. An AI data center along with the software could run 5 years of TicTok and emails(who uses emails these days?) in less than an hour. During the process, it will also collect data unrelated to national security, but valuable all the same.

It's tough being an AI techbro these days. Everybody keeps looking for signs the bubble has reached bursting point. If you could get a government contract that foots the bill for your data center and what's even better, makes providing electricity and water to it a matter of national security, you could float on your bubble for a very long time.

It's still a stupid idea that does more harm than any benefit, but theses are desperate times for techbros who keep hoping against hope that today isn't the day it all crashes.
