I'm just curious what types of people atheists and skeptics platonically adore. Yes, it's fine to have a man-crush for a woman. It's just that you're turned on by her brain rather than her knockers. If any part of the boob enter into the equation, it's a regular crush and doesn't qualify.

I have a raging non-sexual hard-on for Neil DeGrasse Tyson. Every time I hear his voice I wish I had ovaries so I could carry his intelligent progeny.

Another one is Alan Turing. The guy was just so amazingly intelligent. The more I learn about him the more my crush is deepened and I want to snuggle with his coffin. But not in a gay way.

On shared third place I have Tim Berners Lee, Bjarne Strousrup and Linus Torvalds. There's something cool about brilliant computing pioneers who make the world a better place in a major way, and are still humble about it. And that they have no interest in cashing in on it. These guys have ample opportunity to get rich. Nope, they don't care. Sure, they all made money. But they all could have rivalled Bill Gates if they'd wanted to.

So what's yours?

Eva Green fascinates me. She has such a distinctive voice. I would buy an audio copy of Art of the Deal if she was the one who read it.

George Clooney. Good looking, intelligent, fairly liberal, like fine alcohols, attracted a beautiful and intelligent woman to marry him. When I am reincarnated, I want to come back as him.

I came up with more: John Bardeen. Dude should be way better known than he is.

Feynman. Von Neumann too.

I guess I have a type. :D

Manly Nacho men do not have man crushes. There are men that they have a lot of admiration and respect for.

HArumph.

Duw, takes all sorts to make a world! I am not anti-anyone, but doesn't the world change! Perhaps I just lack a hero-worshipping gene or something: I know I am baffled by the current political desire for fuhrers.

Typical narcissist thing to say*

*Just kidding. Just trying to defend my own hero worship

Why? - it's just something you do.

Ian McShane is a standup guy. A man's man. His Al Swearengen will always have a special place in my heart, and my internal reading voice sounds exactly like a drunken Swearengen. McShane is the only good thing about American Gods, the new Starz show that makes no sense at all. Shows are becoming excessively psychedelic and oversexed. This show makes me want to read the book but I won't.

As for the younger, soulless generation, Shia LaBeouf is another standup guy. Awesome artist off screen. Doing amazing things out there. High praise for everything he does. I've almost forgiven him for Transformers. Twice now, he has outperformed Gary Oldman. First in Lawless, and more recently Man Down. Most of his failed movies flop because the rest of the cast can't match his intensity. That is the case in Man Down. He and Oldman make it worth watching but definitely not worth PAYING to watch. Don't do it.

Jeremy Wade 10/10

River Monsters is what people should be watching. Fishing is what people should be doing. Wade is the coolest angler on the planet. Definitely on animal planet. When he is gone next year there will be no fishermen left. I heard shark even Shark Week may be leaving. River Monsters has touched many people. Jeremy Wade is such a good story teller. I'd be mesmerized if he just read the DMV study book. He would make it sound epic.

Shame that animal planet is losing the best show it has. Paul "Mungo" Mungeam is a complete dick. That show is going to suck, and it will fill not the painful hole. It isn't even about fishing. I think Wade owed it to the world to continue working for Animal Planet but I respect any decision he makes because he is a good man. Fishing is good. Everyone should learn to fish. God help them if they ever have no choice. Fishing was once such a huge part of growing up. I don't see that going on as much, and that is a concern. There are fishing video games. That makes about as much sense as guitar video games. Buy them a guitar and a fishing pole? A chance to be normal? They deserve so much more. the kids, I mean. Jeremy Wade makes fishing exciting. He has changed the lives of kids, so for that he gets a 10/10.
