But is that relevant?Trump can stop trading with anyone he likes. But he simply doesn't have the power, let alone the authority, to stop the US from trading with everyone with whom we have a deficit.Trump tells The Fed to lower rates or he'll stop trading with nations the US has a trade deficit with.
I'm assuming the Fed thinks this is an empty threat as it is preposterous. But Jebus! He'd have to embargo our largest trading partners, China, Canada, EU. Global Recession, domestic Depression anyone? It'd be like telling Iran to make a peace deal with the US or else Trump will raze Florida.article said:Trump posted on Truth Social, in what appeared to be a directive to the Federal Reserve, to "LOWER THE RATE OR I'LL STOP TRADING WITH COUNTRIES WITH WHICH WE HAVE A DEFICIT."
Trump, who has long voiced a desire for lower interest rates, asserted that an embargo could be "BETTER THAN TARIFFS" and said "the Fed Board, with its great new leader, must get smart."
He has ignored the law and gotten away with it, repeatedly with tariffs. The President is only restricted from actions that makes other enforce the restriction.
The rules of the world don't apply to Trump. He says to label Lake Ontario to Lake America, and now that is what it says on Google Maps and Apple Maps. Sure a global embargo should be harder... but should is a "four letter word" to me.That would require police at every airport, sea port and land access to check all shipments, and require the US postal service to interdict mail from those countries.
