The cruelty towards Trans members of the military by Trump and company

Sorry that WaPo makes you give an email address to read what is supposed to be a shared article. I understand not wanting to give that information. I get tons of emails everyday from all kinds of crazy things. I will try to post articles from the NYT as the NYT doesn't do that.

It seems to be doing it now.

Trumpworld is weirder than anything Fellini put on film. On the kinky side, there's so much material that could fill a Jim Norton set. The Epstein connection. Trump droning on about Arnold Palmer's junk. Our HHS secretary's fascination with raccoon penis. Hegseth and the religion of testosterone. And just this week, Popeye Patel gave us a new set of hiring guidelines for FBI agents. Under certain circumstances, you can become a G Man even if you paid a sex worker or fucked a cow when you were in high school. Not making this up -- for some reason, the bureau felt it necessary to cite bestiality offenses. (BTW, aren't you rather bad at bestiality if your transgressions become public knowledge??? I would have thought that Flossie's lack of speech capacity would be the #1 attraction to the act.)
But, God save us from those he/shes. They're undermining our moral heritage and they're coming for our kids.

Assuming WaPo, like the NYT will ask for my email, I didn’t bother with the article.

I will say there no one “they” holding up a person’s pay. These folks have a chain of command and each person there has to do their job and forward the proper docs and then the folks at their disbursement center also has to do their job. Any singular asshole anywhere along the line could be the offending party. Then it becomes, does that person’s supervisor know or care?

Also while I vehemently disagree with these folks getting kicked out, it is not just physical/mental ability. The service can simply decide something conflicts with “good order and discipline”.

Also, the biggest issue I’ve seen in my later years in the navy regarding otherly gendered people is the average uptight dude being seen naked by the opposite sex. Weird, I know.
On my last ship, to get to our workspace we had to transit a male head. The girls who worked for me would get kind of lax about it and call out “female on deck” while they were walking through. By the book they should crack the door, say it, then proceed. Occasionally, men of a lesser penis would get upset and we’d have to do a reset on the formality.

As far as I'm concerned the military has it backwards. Train as you fight--you don't want people concerned with modesty when it's hit the fan.

I guess both the NYT and WaPo are trying to get more subscribers, so they are asking for emails in order to bother people. But, it's easy to unsubscribe from emails so that's an option that I do sometimes.

I get so many emails from places I've never even heard of and I have no idea what organization shared my email with them. Some are obvious scams and some are just bothersome. I guess I'll be sure and paste the most important parts of any "shared' articles.

The following is a bit more from the WaPo article. it's evident that Shapiro was a very valued member of the military. Btw, there are multiple law suits pending regarding removing transgender people from the military. It was SCOTUS that allowed the felon's order.

She spent her first few years in the reserves, then, at 22, she went active duty. She served as a combat engineer and a noncommissioned officer in charge of training programs — a gig many soldiers consider “the backbone of the military.”
When the higher-ups moved her to a logistics job overseeing weapons and armored vehicles, Shapiro “took it by the horns and ran with it,” said Sgt. 1st Class Jeremiah Thompson, who met Shapiro in 2018 when they served in the 111th engineer battalion together.
“It’s a stressful position with a high turnover rate, but Shapiro was super dedicated,” Thompson said. “She would do anything she could to figure out a way to take care of her soldiers.”

I would have to know more about the living conditions and the military lifestyle to come to a firm conclusion about it. For example, do transwomen use female group showers on board a ship or at a military base? How do the biological women feel about that?
Honestly, I know practically nothing about the arrangements in the military, so I am guessing.

It seems most likely that in the relatively structured and disciplined world of the military those sorts of issues could easily be dealt with. What I could more easily see is folks like Chloe being quietly and surreptitiously sabotaged by transphobic coworkers and such. People who just don't like those ungodly weirdos and can get rid of them, particularly easy in the current Trump/Hegseth regime.

Just my guess, but I do have a clue about how bigots can get things done.
Tom
Sure but the article reports that she was excellent at her job and only began to have stress related performance issues once the transphobia policies began targeting her

I gave WaPo my email address and it gives unfettered access to their content and the ability to share a certain number of articles per month. No paid subscription needed.

Are you agreeing with me? I'm not sure.

I was referring to beaves post about women being uncomfortable with living and bathing arrangements.

Yes, sorry. I agree with you or perhaps differ slightly as my assumption was that she did not live on base. Somehow I did not read beave’s post as being about living in barracks.

Lots of people—enlisted and civilian do lots of military jobs that do not involve living in barracks or on base or even working in base. I’ve done it and one of my offspring is doing it currently try and to be honest, more people I know/have known who work or have worked for the military do not live in barracks or in base.

The real cruelty is the woke that went out of their way to recruit inappropriate candidates into the military. Now that the woke phase is all but over, these people are again, collateral damage in much the same way as Jason Arday at Cambridge. It was bound to end in tears.
If the “anti-woke” people cared about merit then they’d oppose summary dismissal of all of a particular class of people without regard of their job performance or core competence. Whether you really meant it or not; you categorize the entire class as “inappropriate”. This is without considering the roles into which they were recruited. Intelligence gathering and statistics don’t require a dick and don’t care what your dick likes if you have one.

You illustrate the entire point of DEI awareness. It is not to fill quotas. It is to expand competency by tempering biases that undervalue classes for characteristics other than competence. Otherwise you end up with Trump’s cabinet.

It's pretty obvious those who oppose DEI and "woke" do so because they are bigoted dick heads. Trump, Kegsbreath, Miller, et al.

What you’re missing is that in RW bigotsoeak, “inappropriate” is a placeholder for black, brown or otherwise undesirable.

Homeless vets are not unique to trans. It has been an ongoing problem.

I have mixed views on trans in general and trans in militray.

Out in the civilian world trans should have equal rights.

I think it was a bad idea to allow trans into the militray. As I undershorts it trans got ongoing treatment in the militray. A condition requiring ongoing treatment is not good for the military. Diabetes disqualifies for enlistment.

I have to wonder if there were trans who enlisted to get treatments.

Gays are another matter. They do not require special care. I checked to make sure, they can still enlist and serve openly.

Trans people, especially after they get their gonads off, don't strictly need daily treatment.

Many service members have some kind of medication that they might take from time to time.

People are t going to up and die or even significantly change all that much hormonally, being a eunuch for a month or even a year. Maybe a bit of bone loss? And even that's unlikely given that it takes a long deprivation, bad nutrition, and pharmaceutical support is just another modern aspect of logistics support: vanishingly few soldiers are ever end up more than a week or so out from established logistics chains.

A diabetic person without insulin is consistently hours or days from having to walk on eggshells just to stay alive, whereas a trans person, at least on a physical level, just has to tolerate a quieter-than-normal (or more
discordant) experience of themselves.

The whole argument is just stupid and I lose a measure of respect every time I see someone roll it out, as if not having testosterone or estrogen through a period of mere weeks or months with its side effect of making you feel bad is somehow equivalent to not having insulin, which fucking kills you.
