Looks like any sequels to the recent Terminator Genysis movie are on hold indefinitely due to disappointing box office numbers.

That's a shame, I didn't think it was that bad a movie, and the numbers weren't the flop some sources are saying. So it looks as if we will never know who sent "Pops" back to 1973. But to me the whole franchise is running of ideas: after all there's only so many times a robot can be sent back into the past, apparently stop the creation of Skynet only to not quite succeed, thus allowing a sequel.

So that means no more TV series either? Oh dear, was really looking forward to that.

On other news, there's further evidence that Winds of Winter is coming in Spring 2016.

They'll resurrect the franchise one way or another eventually.

He'll be back.

But ya, the writing's been on the wall for this since the Monday after it came out. The film was terrible and nobody wanted to pay to see it.

Maybe in a couple of years when the rights revert back to James Cameron, we'll finally get a Terminator 3 movie to wrap up the story.

I though it was pretty good. But that could be because I had the "Oh god this is gonna suck" going into it.

But yeah, they're upset about the box office take. IIRC, they only made $250,000,000 off it--after costs.

Seriously. It's made about a quarter of a billion dollars and it's considered a flop.

To be fair though, it lost money in the U.S. It was the worldwide returns, particularly from China that made the studio so much money.

At least this isn't like the Fantastic Four where FOX will willingly lose money on the property movie after movie just to deny the property to Marvel.

Oh, shit. I was hoping for an early 2016 release for Winds of Winter. Now we have to wait until September? Not good enough.

I wonder if it is not just the low box office that has put any more sequels on hold, but also the recent volume of mass shootings happening in the U.S., which have a (somewhat) analogous storyline to the Terminator theme, of an individual going on a hunt and killing a lot of other entirely innocent people in the process. If such a movie opened immediately after another one of these events happened, I know I would feel less inclined to go and watch it, and even if I did it would be harder to enjoy it as well. The recent tragic shooting in the news would largely be in my mind as I was viewing it.

And now I've been seeing news sources appearing to deny this. Although there are supposedly some changes to be made: maybe a change in actors?

What do you mean if it opens just after one of these shootings? That implies the potential for there bring a long enough lull in these shootings for the movie to open.
