Science and the Bible: Insect Legs

Something being a 'sacred cow' is an old metaphor.

In Hinduism, cows are considered sacred and are seen as a symbol of divine and natural beneficence, representing strength, wealth, and motherly love. They are revered for their gentle nature and the life-sustaining milk they provide, and Hindus often abstain from eating beef.

Many ancient and medieval Hindu texts debate the rationale for a voluntary stop to cow slaughter and the pursuit of vegetarianism as a part of a general abstention from violence against others and all killing of animals.[19][20]

Another metaphor for what occurs occasionally on the forum.

"Chewing the cud" refers to ruminant animals, like cows, regurgitating and re-chewing their partially digested food (called cud) to further break down cellulose and extract nutrients.
