• Welcome to the Internet Infidels Discussion Board.

People are not being properly skeptical of Corona virus news.

We are experiencing a rapidly developing highly contagious global pandemic. It's impacting financial markets, workers, schools etc. it's not going to kill everyone but it will kill a fairly high number of people who are old or who have underlying conditions, like hypertension, asthma, COPD, heart disease, cancer, and diseases that impact the immune system, like RA, for example. it should taken seriously. Panic never helps, but taking precautions never hurts. From what I've seen, people here aren' taking enough precautions.

We still don't know enough about the overall impact of this new virus, but as others have said, we do have a vaccine for seasonal flu as well as treatment for seasonal flu. We have nothing to prevent or treat this virus. yet. The company, Regenerex is working on a vaccine and a treatment, but it will be ready for testing in 3 or 4 months at best. A lot of damage could happen in the interim, plus it might not even prove to be as effective as hoped

It's not a big deal if one has a mild case, but terrible if you have complications. Our hospitals aren't prepared to take on the potential number of people who will have serious complications from this virus. It can cause pneumonia, respiratory failure and in the worst cases, multi organ failure which leads to death. Until we get a better handle on things, I see no reason not to take it's potential to disrupt many aspects of the country very seriously.

Take a look a South Korea, a country with high populations and good testing.

The 'Daily new Cases' chart is showing that the Corona virus is essentially over for them.

Same with the 'Daily new Cases' China

You are taking the wrong lesson from the data. The curves aren't flattening by accident, it's taking extraordinary measures to slow the spread down, and they will have to continue so indefinitely, we don't even know when or if they'll have a vaccine. If they had treated it as the yearly flu (except for not having vaccine or antivirals for it) or as business as usual, they'd be fucked. Remains to be seen how the US will handle it, we have made missteps so far, and our curve is still rising.
