Seattle isn't the rest of the country. Seattle did have a spike in crime. They tried things differently, it didn't work too well. That isn't representative of the country, but what Steve has observed isn't fake either.

They are social programs. Socialism is when the economy is based on public control of means of production, i.e. socializing the economy writ large, not just having some social programs.

You are trying to redefine "socialism" in order to make the likes of Mamdani, who is an actual Marxist, appear less extremist.

So at what point does society become socialist? 50%? 60%? Where does it say in the definition that it must be all or most of society?

Good Heavens! Can anyone imagine the horror if a white man or a Christian ever held the reigns of power in New York? I guess the closest NYC ever came to that hideous experience was with W.R. Grace in the 19th century, but he was Irish (not really a white man) and Romanist (not really a Christian).

But despite that white Christians have never held power in New York, the Great One snoozing in the newly refurbished Oval Office is finally bringing religion to this Atheo-Jihadist shithole country. His shade of white may be a bit too orangish, but he's the greatest Christian since Jesus Christ: Everybody says so.

It’s amazing to me how much people crave a dictatorship as long as the dictator agrees with them.

This is why it is so hard to find compromise these days because people don’t even respect the concept of democracy.

The definition is that a socialist society is based on public ownership and control of means of production. That means most.
However, anything close to 50% is best understood as a truly mixed economy, as public and private sector are comparable in size.

What does socialism mean to you? Any system with a public sector? Or just any system with more of a public sector or more generous social safety net than present-day US?

Socialism is a broad term. Would you also include the following actions as socialist: the government taking ownership in companies, telling companies who to trade with, directing companies how to run their HR department, telling companies how they should name themselves? Yes free markets and limited government. But we shouldn't forget the most powerful politician in the US is making the greatest threats against capitalism.
