Horns Up Heavy Metal fans?

Kids these days man. In reference to some of the "newer style metal" bands out there, a few I find pretty good. If you have a level of tolerance to the metal vocals backed with sing-songy lightness then check out Abandon All Ships, or give your opinion if this is a stretch. Too many sub-genres out there to keep track of.

Not safe for work, or anybody who has eaten within the last hour. Seriously.

I like some of the new style metal bands too, and I don't really pay that much attention to the sub-genres either. If it makes me want to bang my head then I just call it metal. Norma Jean's last album was pretty amazing in my opinion, and I just heard about a band called Structures that sounds pretty good.

The new White Chapel album Our Endless War sounds pretty kickass.

I think Ghost is pretty good, if you like melodic/theatrical/proggy metal. Known as Ghost BC in Rome. I mean the US.

I believe Carcass has a new album out.

Ghost- hell yes. Throwback to the 'Sabbath era. Those guys are revered by a lot of mega-metal bands. You can't read an interview by Anselmo without him mentioning those guys.

going back to the source

Since you mentioned Sabbath, I had to post this. It's my favorite Sabbath song, and maybe my favorite rock song of all time. If anyone honestly thinks Ozzy wasn't a good singer - at least at certain points in his recording career, particularly 1973 through 1983 - after listening to this song, then I'm sorry, they must be totally tone deaf!

Ozzy rules! :triumphant:

Beautiful, majestic funeral doom: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_QMBr5xYR_U

I know I'm still in the past a wee tad, will try and get up to speed. I hope this thread doesn't just fizzle out.

Still in the past? My favorite doom band is still Candlemass, its not funeral doom, but I think Messiah Marcolin has the perfect doom metal voice. Evoken is still around afaik, they put an album out in 2012.

I don't see this thread fizzling out, metal fans are nothing if not devoted to the music.

Speaking of Candlemass, have you listened to Solitude Aeturnus? I believe Robert Lowe, S.A.'s vocalist, was originally in that band.

In case you haven't:

I can't remember how to embed the vids. I'm sure there's a way right from Youtube, but I'm too lazy and tired from work to look into it now. S.A.s Alone album is amazing, not a sub-par song on it.

Another old favorite: Cathedral, their full album The Ethereal Mirror:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=woE4lBE615I = Mini documentary about Ghost & papa ermeritus ii. Apparently, papa is most likely Tobias Forge. I've listened to some of the other bands he was in, and the vox are almost certainly him. Great sounding stuff from these guys!

Definitely Tobias Forge. Soeaking of sludge-like doom metal, check out Winter. Not sure if they're still around.

Another great Doom band - this one Nautical Funeral Doom, or Nautika as I've heard it called, is Ahab. Long, deeply depressing but somehow cheering, majestic music.
