Mrs. Tharmas is the crafty one in our family. She does cross stitching, rug hooking, and more recently she has taken up welding and does various yard sculptures.

Here are some of her hooked rugs:

Jackie Boy, our first boxer, memorialized. This was an early one she did, one of the first that she designed herself:

A more recent one – Opal, our Chihuahua:

A large one she finished just yesterday, for our dining room, flanked by two smaller ones:

These are just three, but she’s done many more. Tomorrow I’ll post images of some of her welded objects.

Welded Objects

I haven’t gotten many comments (thank you Aup!) but I thought I’d add the welded things anyway.

Mrs. Tharmas is very much into folk art (“outsider art” if you prefer), as you can probably tell. These pieces are made from auto mufflers and various other bits of found scrap.

First up, the Statue of Liberty:

Next, some giant poppies:

Be-bop, the robot guarding our front porch (when you knock into him he bounces around on those springs for a few seconds, so I guess you could call him a kinetic sculpture):

bop.png

Finally, a critter in our back yard:

critter.png

There are others, but that’s enough for now.

The welded art reminds me of steam punk but with curiously cute features. Cool.
