Great news! Over 20 dead in Orlando Night Club!

Clearly, the solution is to let people bring firearms to nightclubs so that there more drunken people with guns.

Also, Islam is a religion of peace so the shooter wasn't a real Muslim.

This is the terrible conundrum the left and right face, and you stated it perfectly.

"If there woulda been a good guy with a gun..."

"What about Christians who murder..."

No matter what the case, some fucking asshole---some tiny, insignificant piece of shit is going to effect things across the U.S. The awful unfortunate fact of the matter though is that this will likely be part of the news cycle. Here today, gone next week until another mass shooting grabs headlines.

I don't really see why the alternative of making and using bombs in anyway justifies keeping an easy access to powerful weapons valid. Certainly those offering this as an argument wouldn't argue that this means that we should make bomb making easy, would they?

This is hopefully a rhetorical question!

Huh? It happened at 2am this morning.
I see, it happened 2am and 6 hour later at 8am local time thread was started. Still people from Europe (me included) could have started it earlier.

Most people in the US were sleeping at the time. You do know the Earth rotates, don't you?

And if you could have started it, why didn't you? Chastising people for doing the same as you, classy.

NBC news say they have spoken to the father of the suspected gunman by phone.

The man said: "We are saying we are apologising for the whole incident. We weren't aware of any action he is taking. We are in shock like the whole country.

"This had nothing to do with religion."

He added his son "got very angry when he saw two men kissing" months before in Miami

That's fucking what I said.

I am not chastising anyone.

it seems the shooter is a fundamentalist muslim

Great! So a US born citizen has the name Omar and his parents are from Afghanistan - that means this discussion will devolve into a rant about "them moooslim terrorists" while the lives lost in the nightclub will be ignored,

The lives lost won't be entirely ignored. This is a double hit for the religious right. They get to slam all Muslims as terrorists, and call it god's punishment for being gay. Twice the lothesome response to one event!

Someone on another board I frequent said they have a friend who was at the club and have not heard of his condition. His boyfriend is in hospital with gunshot wound.

Local authorities are also asking for blood donations. I've worked in a hospital lab and I'm sure something like this would have cleaned out our supply very, very quickly.

Florida's governor, Rick Scott, when asked what people should do about this on CNN a few minutes ago said, "Just pray for them and their families."

On the surface it's a nice sentiment. But it's undergirded by the fact that he and other Republicans plan to do nothing about it. It also highlights the uselessness of the millions of prayers for this to never happen again when it's happened before so many times. Empty, deadly words and wishes that only further the ability of people to do things like this.

I need to stay off Facebook today to avoid all the shit about it being a people problem and not a gun problem. As if America, by some cosmic happenstance contains not just more crazy people in it than any other western nation, but also easy access to handguns and military grade weaponry and there's nothing that can or should be done about either. Of course that's fucking stupid, but people believe it.

But it won't change. If anything was going to change it would have happened after Sandy Hook. But when 20 dead kindergartners only hardened the resolve of the NRA and its slimy fucking ilk, thereby resulting in absolutely zero measures to do anything about the access to high power weaponry or services for the mentally ill, it was obvious that nothing of any magnitude was going to happen.

The only difference here is that it's happened in an election cycle. It is depressing to think that this could help Trump. But that's getting too far ahead of things. The police know more but can't release the information until they get it sorted out.

As much as I am for gun control, this case is not about gun control. Determined terrorist will find a way to kill a lot of people regardless of gun control.
And you know this person was a determined terrorist because....?

You mean "Sandy Hoax" amirite?

Oh, and how long before we start hearing that the Pulse massacre was a black flag operation?

...if it actually happened that is.

At least people who really think it was a hoax are truly delusional. It indicates an actual humanity within them because it's too terrible of a thing to accept. It's the reptiles who knew it happened, but made sure it could happen again who are truly vile.

When a Christian American does something like this, it's because he was mentally ill. When a Muslim American does it, it's because he's Muslim. There are never multiple factors that play into what evil choices people make.

CNN reported that the killer called 911 and claimed allegiance to ISIS.

Sounds to me like the guy got a two-fer. ISIS inspired terrorism and hatred of gay people.

Mass slaughter is a daily occurrence for the religion of peace.

There are reports of an heavily armed man arrested in Los Angeles, apparently headed for the LA Gay Pride parade.
