I have been on a long road around belief and religion and living honestly in the universe.
I see that quote, and honestly, if there is a god, it is spot on. It is so correct it hurts, in fact. But most importantly, it is more correct than the author gives themselves time for.
If you want to know the mind of god, if you believe such a thing exists, you must actually look at the things you can see that he has done. Don't look at the works of men. Look at the things the universe does, and the rules of it, and the ways it operates.
If you do this, you will understand something very important: of there is a god, that God wants you to doubt your beliefs as vigorously as possible. How can I say this? The universe expresses a relationship, and if there is a god, he is the author of that relationship, and that relationship I am talking about is the fact that doubt works: people who doubt their beliefs have more progress, growth, and success than those who do not.
Second, God wants you to accept the truth of Evolution, an old universe, and their non-intervention. Why can I say this? Because there are relationships in the universe that unequivocally show that the universe is old, that life is related to a common ancestor, and that that common ancestor arose billions of years ago. You can test it, do the math, use the reason god, if they exist, ensured would emerge in you to work it out.
Math, science, ethics, philosophy, logic, these all yield answers and function and value to living the only life we can be sure to get. The benefits of accepting the relationships that these approaches reveal within the universe is undeniable. They are real. And if the universe is the spoken word of God, their functional benefit is a message: figure it out, doubt your conclusions, and work on making them better.
Likewise there are other undeniable facts of the universe: sometimes people lie. Sometimes they lie about talking to god, even. Sometimes they say useful things with useless bullshit mixed in.
If there is a god they have written some fairly clear messages for anyone with the honesty to read and understand them. They are not written in books but in real relationships that exist as a result of the fundamental structure of the universe.
If you wish to know god, if there is a god, you WOULD do well to see what he has done, and do your best to understand it.
