Didn't know where to post this so let's try here

One of the stars of TV’s “Duck Dynasty” urged Christians to take their non-believing friends to see an upcoming Nicolas Cage movie, saying it might convert them.

Willie Robertson recorded a short promotional video that was posted Friday morning to the Facebook page set up for “Left Behind,” an upcoming feature film based on the popular religion-themed book series that depicts the end times.

“Like most Christians, my family and I can truly say that we’re excited about the soon return of Jesus, and I’m sure, if you’ve been watching the news lately, you know that that return could be any day from now,” Robertson said.

Ooh! A movie about the imminent return of Jesus and the Rapture! Are you ready?

I watched a movie about the same thing...back in 1979. The Late Great Planet Earth, based on the blockbuster book by Hal Lindsey.

35 years later, still waiting for Jesus to come back.

well, considering he was supposed to come back before the apostles died, count the 35 years as lucky ;)

"JC you late, son."

Y'all need to remember, he's a trickster, who LOVES fooling people.

It's a little trick his father taught him, like making a young creation look old to fool those stoooopid scientists...

I watched Clash of the Titans 30 years ago and that didn't comvert me and hasn't converted any Christian. Go figure.

They read such a book as Left Behind and find it moving, and project those feelings onto the rest of the world without realizing it only moves them because they already believed in the Jesus mythology to begin with. Zero rationality. Critical thinking is the only thing these religions can successfully exorcise. The power of Christ verily doth compel you.

Why Nicholas Cage? He's just acting in the movie. Is he trying to convert people the way this DD asshat is doing?

But...but... But Chick Tracts work. Read the testimonials! Showing people The Truth in a comic book format works all the time!
Sure, showing people fantasies like Zeus and Hera doesn't convert anyone.
But the Truth Will Out!

Another reason to not go see a Nick Cage movie, as if I needed any reason other than having seen a Nick Cage movie before.

So we had Star Wars and now we have lots of people whose religion is now Jedi Knight.
Yes, but that would not have happened if Lucas was actually trying to proselytize The Force.

it's an old standard, if you're trying to send a message, use Western Union.

I liked the part of the article where some conservative Xians were bitching that Cage "might" not be a Christian. He's a bloody actor, doing a movie...what idiots.

LOL...I realized that Cage is probably one of the higher paid actors that I pay almost no attention to.

So...either this film presents new facts and research or it's inspiring and sentimental. If the former we should expect Christianity to sweep the world as the new research becomes generally known. If the latter, Duck-man is advocating accepting what he'd be first to admit is the most important decision of one's life on purely emotional grounds -- something Christianity clearly has no monopoly on.

If he is making "Left Behind" movie, his higher pay days have ended.

Meh…he may not be as highly paid as he used to be (pretty common problem for aging actors), but he has a few movies in the queue beyond this movie, possibly even another dreadful National Treasure. This is still the land of lots of Christians, even if they aren’t all fundagelicals. So an action packed Left Behind movie might do fine. Cage is also probably still working to dig himself out of an economic shithole that he crashed himself into.

For a guy that was never a top tier action actor, I’d say he is still doing pretty good:

Though he can’t command the salaries he used to, Cage remains one of Hollywood’s highest paid actors. In the early 2000s, though, Cage was the $20 million man, commanding that much for "Gone in Sixty Seconds," "Windtalkers," and "National Treasure." These days he’ll work for a more modest$2 million to $10 million per film and a percentage of the movie’s gross.

I can see being inspired by a movie. People have claimed as much; making real life-changes in their attitudes and behaviors because of a movie. Food, Inc. comes to mind, I see a lot of people making changes because of that movie (I also see a lot of backsliders). I've never seen the movie. I doubt I'll see this one. Depending on the church showing this movie, the viewer could be asked to make slight changes to their core self, or some very radical changes. If I were inspired enough to make a radical change to my beliefs and behaviors, I'd certainly want to check out what I saw with a critical eye.

But Food, inc. is a documentary. It persuades with facts and analysis, not with sentimental mythology.

LOL My first thought upon reading that he is in this movie is that he must be desparate for money :p

So the Duck Dynasty boys are wanting their fellow Christians to insult their friends by implying that their spirituality is lacking and thus they need to be shown the "right" religion?

Charming. Guess these guys have no friends who are not already Christian, eh?

He is. Close to bankruptcy for stupid purchases like buying castles and suits of armor and fancy cars. Then I think backtaxes hit him. But if his movie starring roles hit big, then he can get his fortune back.
