How bad is Trump? People don't think Cheney is as bad a guy these days because of how bad Trump has been. Cheney was despised, yet people are thinking, well, at least he did have his Grinch heart moment.
I don't agree with this line of reasoning. It's rather similar to "other people have it worse, so I should feel good about my life". It's also the same type of reasoning some people in abusive relationships use. "Well, they're not as bad as my ex, so I guess I'll stay".

I'm not saying Cheney should be held in good regard. Just that Trump has lowered the bar so low, even Dick Cheney can sneak across it.
Sure, but (what people fail to realize) is not having higher standards is one of the reasons why Trump gets away with so much. It results in a vicious cycle.

I knew he was still alive but wondered how he had made it to 84, considering all of his cardiac problems. Perhaps if we all had the type of medical care that someone like Dick did, we'd all have a longer life expectancy. Of course, that won't happen. For one thing we don't have enough health care professionals to care for all of our citizens even if we had UHC.
Yeah, I think that Cheney was a really bad guy and will even go so far as to say that he helped lay the groundwork for Trump’s rise, although that was not his intention. He saw the world in black and white and dollar signs and power. Morality, right and wrong never figured into the equation. Just power. Which he thought was right for the US to wield no matter the cost to individuals, countries, regions or the world. The popular depiction of him as Darth Vader was quite apt. Those who call him a war criminal are correct.
