Confucius came to mind on a post abut words of Jesus. Predates Jesus by about 500 years.

I believe he is credited with bringing the idea of meritocracy to Chinese government of his day. Exams for government positions instead of appointees.

The saying "Confucius wise is the wise man who gets beyond words of wisdom" encapsulates a core tenet of Confucian philosophy: wisdom goes beyond mere knowledge or intellectual brilliance. It suggests that true wisdom involves understanding the underlying principles and actions that guide a virtuous life, rather than just accumulating information. This aligns with Confucius's emphasis on virtue, ethical conduct, and harmonious social relationships, which are considered more important than intellectual achievements.
Elaboration:

Beyond Knowledge:
Confucius believed that knowledge (or brilliance in organizing ideas) is not wisdom itself. He saw wisdom as a deeper understanding that allows one to make wise judgments and decisions, encompassing reason, discretion, and the ability to discern good from evil.

Virtue and Ethical Conduct:
Confucian wisdom is closely linked to virtue and ethical conduct. Confucius emphasized the importance of cultivating virtues like righteousness, kindness, and sincerity. A wise person is not just knowledgeable but also someone who embodies these virtues in their actions and interactions.
Harmonious Social Relationships:
Wisdom in the Confucian sense also involves understanding and fostering harmonious social relationships. Confucius believed that a well-ordered society is built on virtuous individuals who understand their roles and responsibilities.
Actions Speak Louder Than Words:
The saying "Confucius wise is the wise man who gets beyond words of wisdom" suggests that true wisdom is demonstrated through actions rather than just reciting wise sayings. A wise person acts with discernment and ethical consideration, making wise decisions and choices in their daily lives.
The Importance of Reflection and Self-Improvement:
Confucius also emphasized the importance of reflection and self-improvement as paths to wisdom. He believed that by examining one's own thoughts and actions, one could gain a deeper understanding of oneself and the world around them.

Confucius quotes

I hear and I forget. I see and I remember. I do and I understand.

By three methods we may learn wisdom: First, by reflection, which is noblest; Second, by imitation, which is easiest; and third by experience, which is the bitterest.

A superior man is modest in his speech, but exceeds in his actions.

I hear and I forget. I see and I remember. I do and I understand.

Confucius quote: It does not matter how slowly you go as long as you do not...

It does not matter how slowly you go as long as you do not stop.

When it is obvious that the goals cannot be reached, don't adjust the goals, adjust the action steps.

By three methods we may learn wisdom: First, by reflection, which is noblest; Second, by imitation, which is easiest; and third by experience, which is the bitterest.

Life is really simple, but we insist on making it complicated.

If you chase two rabbits, you catch none.

The man who moves a mountain begins by carrying away small stones.

A superior man is modest in his speech, but exceeds in his actions.

Attack the evil that is within yourself, rather than attacking the evil that is in others.
