This topic is shocking but hopefully it can still be discussed in a careful way.

With a swift swipe of his scalpel, Rabbi A Romi Cohn circumcises the baby boy, then leans down and sucks the blood from the wound as prayers in Hebrew fill the Brooklyn synagogue.

The Orthodox Jewish tradition known as oral suction circumcision reaches back to biblical times but it has created a modern-day dilemma for New York City health officials, who have linked it to 17 cases of infant herpes since 2000. Two infants died and two others suffered brain damage.
So circumcision has been mentioned in the Bible a lot. The news article says the "tradition known as oral suction circumcision reaches back to biblical times". Even Jesus was circumcised. Thoughts?

If an all-knowing male deity wants you to let a medical-training-optional religionist slice the natural skin covering off your infant's penis and then suck on it, who are you to challenge him?
"Where were you when I laid the earth's foundation??"

If god wants us to cut off our foreskins why did he give it to us in the ifrst place?

There is reconstruciont surgery to restore a foreskin if you want it back,

Circumcision reconstruction (often called foreskin restoration) is the process of regrowing or recreating foreskin-like tissue. This is done to achieve partial or full coverage of the glans (head) of the penis. It can be accomplished through non-surgical tissue expansion (stretching) or surgical procedures like revisions, grafts, or tissue flaps.

You don't need to do it my gentile forum friend! I hope that hint gives you some peace of mind.

Interesting to know, thanks for the info.

Gentile? Learner has come up with a new tactic, condescension? To Jews Christians are gentiles, my gentile Christian friend.

AI Overview
Being a gentile generally means not being of Jewish faith or heritage. It comes from the Latin word gentilis (meaning of the same family or nation) and translates biblical terms for "the nations"—groups of people outside the Jewish community or tribes of Israel.

AI Overview
Male circumcision is the oldest known surgical procedure in history. Because it dates back into prehistory, there is no single, identifiable individual who first practiced it. Anthropological and historical evidence reveals it emerged independently across multiple isolated cultures long before recorded history\\\\

Circumcision likely has ancient roots among several ethnic groups in sub-equatorial Africa, Egypt, and Arabia, though the specific form and extent of circumcision has varied. Ritual male circumcision is known to have been practiced by South Sea Islanders, Aboriginal peoples of Australia[which?], Sumatrans, and some ancient Egyptians.[1]

Today it is still practiced by Jews, Samaritans, Druze,[2][3] Coptic Christians,[a][4][5] Ethiopian Orthodox,[a][6] Eritrean Orthodox,[a][7] Muslims, and some tribes in East and Southern Africa. Other countries with significant rates of circumcision include the United States, South Korea, and the Philippines.[8][9][10]

Ancient tribal male rituals, bonding. Jews did not invent it. Jews did not invent monotheism, they assimilated and adapted much.

Conservative Jewish folks used that method in NYC, but I read it was banned several years ago. Who knows if some Rabbis are still doing it. My son and husband were never cut. I did my research before he was born and saw no reason to have him cut. My mother in law didn't like the idea of having some of her son's body parts removed when he was an infant, although she did have the second son cut. I read last year that the American Board of Pediatrics still supports circumcision.

I tend to think that perhaps the reason that circumcision was required back in Biblical times was due to the lack of good hygiene methods. I could be wrong, but to me it makes sense, as without running water and such, smegma might build up, causing a irritation or worse yet an infection. I've think a lot of old religious rituals might be due to the times they were started.

Another example might be the law against shell fish. In ancient times, there was no refrigeration, so it was hard to keep shell fish safe to eat unless it was eaten as soon as it was caught. Religious people think these things were somehow god's commands, but it makes more sense that some of them were for health reasons, imo.

The fragmentary text known as Geneshizzle was discovered in the Dead Sea Scrotums back in '46-'47. It contains many a gloss on the Pentateuch, in some cases enriching our understanding of Bible practices. (In Geneshizzle, the first humans are Andrew and Evelyn, and Andrew is made not from dust but from hummingbird feathers; Evelyn is formed from Andrew's third nostril; they are tempted not by a serpent but by a dancing millipede named Tobias; Noah's family is thrown off the ark when they are hijacked by Nephilim; the Tower of Babel is actually a Beanstalk of Babel, and several of its builders actually climb into the heavens, which they find to be a gated community.)
The relevant circumcision passage occurs at Genesh. 22:1-7:
1 - And God said, "Abraham!", and there was a silence on the land.
2- And God said, "Abraham!" and Abraham said, "Present."
3- And God said, "This ye shall do as a sign of the everlasting covenant between me and you and your descendants. First, ye shall cut off your foreskin."
4- And Abraham said, "How can this be, Lord? For shall we yet be made in thy image?"
5- And God said, "Yea, for mine became the rings of Saturn. For a second sign, ye shall bind up thy only son Isidore, whom you love, and offer him as a burnt offering in the mountains of Moriah."
6- Abraham answered, "I shall bind the child up, and he shall be sacrificed to you, O LORD my God."
7- God said, "Thou doest, simply that I said so? No. Just do the dick stuff."

More information:
"the mohel uses their mouth to suck blood away from the baby's circumcision wound"

I originally heard about it here:

It talks about 3 mohels being charged for this in Belgium. 5:00 in it quotes "The Trump admin is demanding the "anti-Semitic" charges be dropped". (the video's title was "TRUMP DEFENDS THE S*CKING OF BABY D*CKS")

Thank you for title dub.

When you asked the previous question:

"If god wants us to cut off our foreskins why did he give it to us in the ifrst place?"

It was as if you asked this question like someone was expressing being burdened by the circumcision tradition. I know you weren't burdened by the thought of it. I was just jesting as if you were.

So, in my previous post, I was "assuring" you, with friendly sarcastic humour, responding to say (in a manner of speaking )...

...That you ARE in the same boat as the Christians. Who were/are considered to be gentiles ....who do not need to follow the circumcision tradition . A fellow gentile. 🙂

Hee Hee, nice try at turning the table.

I am not burdened by things I had no control over. Until this thread I never thought much about it. I do think in modern times it is bizarre to mutilate a baby in the name of a god, weird to say the least

There have been cases over here of female genital circumcision by immigrant Muslims. The intent is to crop and desensitize the clitoris thinking it will help keep them sexually moral and pure. No sexual pleasure, which is reserved for the male.

I believe gentile in modern times can be used as a pejorative by Jews depending on context, but being called 'non Jewish' by Jews is not offensive to me in any way. Jews in general are not offensive to me in any way. Gentile is a Jewish word for everybody else.

Biblically Jews were very parochial. They can be today, but then so can Italians. Grew up very aware of both cultures.

Where would one read those very particular described traditions documented in biblical times?

Curiously, from the three T's, would it be in the Tanahk? Torah? or Talmud?

Even Jesus was circumcised. Thoughts?

My thoughts: I am intrigued that you are trying to connect the "oral tradition" shall we say,. as you describe a
bove to the circumcision that Jesus would have.

Jesus had an issue with what he called 'manmade' traditions' that he called out the Pharisees for it.

Such a weird religion. The branches don't match the roots.

Jesus was circumcised.
He kept kosher.
He wore traditional garments with tassels.
He attended synagogue and told people to confer with their rabbis.
He observed Jewish holidays up to the last night of his life.
He claimed to fulfill the prophecies in Jewish scripture.
His disputes with others were mainly on points of Jewish law.
He upheld Torah law, emphatically.
His original followers were Jewish.
He instructed his disciples to minister only to Jews.
He told a Samaritan woman that her people were dogs.
He told his disciples they would, in heaven, reconstitute the 12 tribes of Israel.

Somehow -- for some reason -- three of the gospels quote him, post-execution, telling the disciples to preach to "all people everywhere" (MT), "all mankind" (MK), and "to all nations" (LK). No indication that their message of Torah law should change. No indication that all of his Jewish life choices were now optional. No indication whatever that he could possibly agree with Paul that the Jewish law with all its commandments was now abolished (Eph. 2).
These alleged parting words are so foreign to the life Jesus lived that it's as if Melania was eulogizing Trump and told us, "Donalt's last words to me were dat de border should now be open to all peoples who seek help."
What would Jesus do? He'd celebrate his Jewish identity, as he did every day on earth.

How many Jewish sects were there during the time of Jesus? Sadducees dealt with temples. Pharisees dealt with synagogues. etc.
(Not sure what I'm arguing here, it just came out from the top of my sleepy head 😂)

This long listed post , I think would be known as 'Dumping' - a tactic to overwhelm responses with large bulks that would need some addressing.. .individually...requiring a bit of time (especially for a slow coach like me).

..But I think it's just lots of things on your mind you want to get off your chest.

(Fortunately ,for the sake of engaging in this conversation .. I do have a day off tomorrow and I'll be free sometime. 🙂)

Dumping? It's just over 225 words.
It can be boiled down to: he's supposedly your lord and master, yet you aren't living the religious faith he practiced, neither its laws, its cultural practices, its holidays, or its visions of a restored 12 tribes.
Weird. I know it's the Pauline hijacking, but it's incoherent. "Every jot and tittle."
