This is the chilling moment soprano Ayleen Jovita Romero defies the silence curfew, imposed under martial law by the government of Sebastián Piñera in Chile and sings the song “El derecho de vivir en paz”, (The right to live in peace) by Victor Jara.

The establishment tells you to do one thing, then someone does the opposite in protest. How novel.
In this case it was quite lovely and well received, it seems.

Sorry that you were triggered by this snowflake.

Triggered? She has my utmost respect.

And why would you refer to her as a snowflake?

My guess is a misunderstanding of your use of the word "chilling".

I've been educating myself on Chile's politics and history... thanks to this post... (thank you).
It seems Chile is a test bed for extreme Capitalism. The current state of their economy is evidence that unfettered, total commitment to pure capitalism is a failure. The economy is driven by private corporate greed. The result is unaffordable resources and extreme differences in the economic classes. There apparently is no middle class... It's the extremely poor versus the extremely rich.
Corruption in government abounds... in the military and police... in business.. in everything.

People have been protesting various aspects of this for many years. One popular way they protest is by banging pots and pans together.. a cacophony of noise. That is the reason the government imposed a "silence" curfew... to stop protests.

The straw that broke the camel's back in this particular case was a fare hike for their commuter train. The increase was about $0.06 per trip... but it was just a case of enough is enough... the timing of the fare hike was poor too.. it was just around when their leader was charged with tax evasion.. over 30 years of it... but only was made to pay 3 years in back pay... then they hiked the fares.
The protests began with a mass social disobedience campaign where massive amounts of people stormed the train stations and evaded the fares. The response to that was to bring in the military, who allegedly used violence against their own people... things escalated from there...

Sounds just like what our modern day Republicans want for us here.

Yes, exactly my motivation to followup post... I hear all these alleged examples of "failed socialism"... this sounds like a case of "failed Capitalism"... we should be hearing a LOT more about this in the mainstream, no?

What failure are you referring to exactly? Inequality and poverty have gone way down and wealth has increased massively over the past 3 decades. Protests for reform do not mean "capitalism failed" by any stretch of the imagination.

This doesn't mean it's extreme capitalism. The problem here is that there are three basic economic systems--capitalism, socialism and corruption. The latter is never desired but always present. People see the absence of one of the first two as proof the economy is the other when in practice it generally means there's a major corruption component.

You're not rebutting my point at all.
