MailOnline reports:
The GOP staffer who was forced to resign today after calling the first daughters 'classless' is now being exposed as a hypocrite.

Elizabeth Lauten, 31, stepped down from her job as communications director for a Republican representative after her Facebook diatribe against Sasha and Malia Obama's behavior and dress at the annual Turkey pardoning sparked outrage online.

Evidence has now emerged indicating Lauten didn't exactly practice what she preached when she was a teen, growing up out of the public eye in North Carolina.

When Lauten was 17, just a year older than the president's eldest daughter Malia, she was caught stealing from a Belk department store in her hometown, according to court records obtained by the Smoking Gun.

Lauten was charged with misdemeanor larceny for the crime in December 2000, but since she was a first-time offender she qualified for the District Court's deferred prosecution program and the charges were eventually dropped.

Public records also show that Lauten was ticketed at the age of 19 for speeding and running a red light in Virginia.

I hope during those events in her teen years she wasn't looking bored and was wearing inappropriate attire. However, it is hard to see how breaking your country's laws for no political reason (unlike the tea-party "patriots" of the American Revolution) shows due respect for the part you play in your country's affairs, which was also something for which she dinged the bored-looking, allegedly sartorially inappropriate Obama gals at the turkey pardoning event.

I'm glad journalists around the world have devoted the enormous time and resources to this story it took to bring this crucial information to light.

I'm glad you think the Daily Mail is journalism of the non-yellow kind.

I'm not glad to read a post totally based on he fallacy of attacking the messenger.
By "yellow", do you mean muck-raking, cowardly, or both? I have great respect for muckraking journalism, as long as the muck it rakes is accurate and involves adult public figures. Ms. Lauten was working as a Republican Communications Director, in the public eye, when she publicly communicated her perceptions of the teenaged Obamas, which were approximately at the level of a high-school mean-girl analysis, not at the level one would hope for from a mature 31 year old woman.
Fair comment in return, I say, and the hypocrisy, tactlessness, triviality and meanness in her communication serve as fair comment on Republican carelessness in hiring this particular person as a Communications Director.
She has apologized for the thoughtlessness and lack of introspective empathy in her comments, but she should have thought and made the empathetic comparison to herself before making the initial communication public.

Right. She's an important world leader. We need to know what she was doing in high school.

She publicly mocked an important world leader's 13 and 16 year old daughters... for apparently not having any class. I can only presume the daughters were drunk and half naked to warrant that.

But at least she wasn't as bad as Limbaugh in his criticism of Chelsea Clinton's looks.
