Republcians: Waaaah! Criticizing people for rape is character assassination! Waaaaaaah!

That is the part that seems improbable to me. How do you get a whole line of men who are witnessing a rape and no one wants to call the police or help the woman? I could believe 1 or 2 rapists but a whole line of them? Something seems wrong with the story to me. Or I could even believe a line of men waiting to take turns on a drunk woman who was horny and wanted wanted sex. But that would not be rape. The ridiculous part is a whole line of men standing around watching a violent rape and not doing anything. And why wouldn't the accuser herself who saw all this not call the police?! This does not pass the smell test to me.
1) It isn't "rape" because the boys likely think she wants it or they are entitled to her or she is so wasted she'll never remember
2) She didn't report it because:
2a) Highly influential parents of accused
2b) She get into trouble for being at the party with drinking in the first place
2c) She was in denial about the allegation until it happened to her
3) Steubenville

God, reading about that case, I had nearly forgotten about it. I don't suppose you remember what our board-resident Republicans ha to say about it at the time?

I think Derec thought it was rape... but only because it was captured (the rape) in so much social media postings, it was undeniable. Although a part of my mind says Derec may have suggested she wanted some of it, and the remainder of the guys couldn't tell she didn't want anymore... inertia and all. I could be mixing up cases here. There have been a few.

With #MeToo, all of a sudden things seem to be radically changing. It might be a time to teach this too you men and boys, do something stupid and you may pay for it later. No running for office, becoming a judge, being an entertainer, maybe getting a sex offender record for life. Maybe Jordan B.Peterson, instead of bloviating about lobsters, can warn his large audience of admiring young men that times have now changed. Some more rules for living. No rape, sexual harassment, drugging women, date rape, statuary rape et al.

The allegations include them standing in line to gang-rape girls I stand by my comment

That would be a really awkward line to stand in. What do you talk about with the other guys while you're waiting?

Strategy Focuses Attention on Liberal Rights Group : Bush Stresses Dukakis' Affiliation With ACLU - latimes back in the 1988 presidential campaign.
Last summer, when Massachusetts Gov. Michael S. Dukakis was stalking Democratic votes in Iowa, he portrayed himself as a liberal who would fight for civil rights and civil liberties.

"I'm a card-carrying member of the American Civil Liberties Union," he told a meeting in Spencer, Iowa.

This summer, that statement has become one of Vice President George Bush's favorite lines of attack.

"He says, 'I am a card-carrying member of the ACLU,' " Bush told a rally in San Antonio last week. "Well, I am not and I never will be."

Edwin Meese - Wikiquote -- he was an Attorney General during Ronald Reagan's presidency.
1985

U.S. News: You criticize the Miranda ruling, which gives suspects the right to have a lawyer present before police questioning. Shouldn't people, who may be innocent, have such protection?

Meese: Suspects who are innocent of a crime should. But the thing is, you don't have many suspects who are innocent of a crime. That's contradictory. If a person is innocent of a crime, then he is not a suspect.

As quoted in Justice under Reagan: Reagan seeks judges with 'traditional approach' (14 October 1985), U.S. News & World Report, p. 67.

So I am enjoying the sight of right-wingers acting like card-carrying members of the American Civil Liberties Union.

Can you imagine the mentality that was against the ACLU?

These Republicans ride in on waves of ignorance every time.

I nowant to hear testimony before I make up my mind. I don't know enough to have an informed opinion right now ...

Wow. You are taking an unbelievably refreshing approach in this day of partisanship.
You keep saying dumbass shit like this, but it is nearly always in one direction, which makes your complaints about 'partisanship' rich.

Also, I have a sneaking suspicion if similar allegations came out about Bill Clinton, his nose would work just fine.

If you've watched/read Peterson, he actually has said and written very much that. He preaches to young men about taking responsibility. If he would jettison his weird fixation on story archetypes, he may even be worth listening to.

It shouldn't surprise you that this has to be said more often against the majority view of any forum. And no, it isn't always in that direction.

Does he ever address being pushy about sex? General talk about responsibility is not enough.

This Kavanaugh situation would be a good teaching moment. With MeToo, things are changing. Boys will be boys won't fly any more.
Yes, Peterson has the ears and attention of many young men. Telling young men rules for life yet ignoring all of this is going to be an embaressment, if Peterson doesn't use this teaching moment seriously.

It may also help him better protect himself from the myriad of feminist hit pieces that get put out against him.

Oh yes. The reason the mean ol' liberals are saying that rape is a bad thing is because we're all biased!

And you know what? You're right. Rape is now a partisan issue. Congratulations.

We all saw the testimony today. Typically, the Republicans attacked the victim, who was credible and knowledgeable about the peculiar issues involving memory, which happens to be her area of expertise, while Kavanaugh got angry and blustered and blubbered just like very cornered bully ever. It's pretty obvious that he did the things this growing number of accusers are saying he did.

And you know what? That doesn't matter. Long before these rape/assault allegations started coming out, we already knew about two separate incidents of lying under oath. Bill Clinton was impeached and lost his law license for doing that. Kavanaugh should receive the same and should not sit on any bench even before we heard the credible testimony about his predatory nature.

And we still don't know what's in that massive amount of documents that the Republicans are hiding. Presumably, he's guilty of something worse than lying under oath to the Senate during a confirmation hearing, lying to the FBI, and sexual assault and possibly rape.

Oh, and if he's so innocent, why isn't he and the rest of the Republicans calling for an FBI investigation? If he's innocent, that would go a long way towards clearing his name, but instead they are making the unprecedented step of blocking the kind of background checks the FBI typically does for high offices like this.

Kavanaugh knows he's guilty.

Every Republican senator knows he's guilty.

Every rape-happy Republican voter currently crying about "character assassination" knows he's guilty.

They all know he's guilty and none of them care, and we can all guess why.
