The fact remains that a silencer in this situation would have allowed this murderer to kill a lot more people before police located him.

He supposedly also had two other homes in luxury communities. And he also made a lot of money as a professional gambler.

So far, authorities have not found anything in his background to explain why he did this. No online footprints, no manifesto, no LW/RW publications in his home. I'd still like to know more about his relationship with his ex.

It could come down to him just being a gun nut and wanting to actually use his guns on people, nothing more, and he was willing to die to have the experience.

While I was in college, I had to work my way through with a full time job to pay for school and living expenses. This meant that I had to live in a "bad area" of town so I could afford the rent. Twice the sound of my pump action shotgun chambering a round made home invaders decide to run rather than continue into my apartment. One had already busted through the door and the other had already opened a window and had a leg inside. Fortunately, only the distinctive sound of the pump action shotgun was needed and I didn't have to actually fire. When the police showed up, he told me I should have shot because they would likely only break into someone else's home. However, I don't want to actually shoot anyone unless that is the only way to stop them.

Had a weird experience today. I show up to work at a new customer's house about 9am this morning. He had told me a few days ago that he was going on a business trip, so he would have to leave home about 10:30am to catch a plane. He greets me at his front door all jittery and hyper, and said his trip is to Las Vegas for a conference at the Mandalay Bay Hotel (also where he's staying). His phone was "blowing up" all morning with texts from people asking about whether it was still on. I'm curious to talk to him about his experiences when he gets back.

The M16 is a military (not civilian) rifle. All M16s already have a full automatic capability. It is just a matter of moving the selector switch between safe, semi, and full auto. positions

The civilian version, the AR15, does not have a full automatic capability. The selector switch only has safe and semi options.

Yes the AR15 can easily be converted to full automatic.

It's nothing more than changing out a few parts.

They can create parts whole. Modify anything.

I believe it might well have something to do with guns, like the way your rate of gun-murders is thirty times ours and your civilians have shot more of one another than have died in any of your wars. Surely it can't be their general availability!

Exactly, it makes no sense. There was a guy in Edmonton who injured five people with a knife, so if this guy in Vegas didn't have access to high powered rifles so easily, the body count wouldn't have changed. It's important that we move the focus of the conversation away from gun control.
