Sad monkey: A bitter Ken Ham blames atheists and the secular media for the perceived financial failure of his Ark Park.

In a recent blog post to his Answers in Genesis website, leading creationist Ken Ham laments the supposed power of atheists and the “secularist media,” complaining that they are damaging the reputation of his Ark Encounter, and the economy of the surrounding local businesses

I will gladly take the blame for his failure. If there is anything else I can help him fail at by withholding my dollars from said endeavor, please sign me up to be blamed.

The title is misleading. The failure is in the lack of development occurring around the Ark park, not the park itself. No idea if that thing is making any money at all.

Oh, so it's failing because there's no Hooters?

It's a shame that his god didn't teach him to take responsibility for his own failures.

The lack of a Hooters isn't hurting Ham or AiG, it is hurting the taxpayers whose idiot elected officials gave AiG the tax breaks in the first place.

The media is reporting that the tax breaks were a waste of taxpayer money because the post ark development didn't occur. Ham is sad and thinks apparently anti-religious bias reporting now is why development didn't occur a couple years ago.

And for crying outloud, if God can't handle secular reporting, how the heck did he ever manage to pull off the Exodus?!

It's the beginning of the tourist season and Ham is after another dose of underdog marketing.

If it wasn't for atheists complaining about the place no one would know it was there. Bill Nye help pull the place off of the brink of oblivion, by bringing attention to their plight about not receiving funding.

From my experience with Evangelical Christians, the one thing they love almost as much as Christ, is a business opportunity. If the area around the Ark Park is not being developed, it's because no one wants to risk their money. Ham shouldn't feel special.

The country is littered with shuttered "destination" attractions. It's a tough business. He is competing with mountain sized water slides and roller coasters that exceed 5G in the turns. Dinosaur mannequins posed next to Biblical shepherd mannequins just can't compete with that.

Well, the Egyptians lacked chariots of iron. Those secularists love them some iron chariots.

Anyway, honestly I thought I would be amused by this, but this is just sad.

Was there at least a damn petting zoo? Seems like the sort of place that should have one...

Yes, there is a petting zoo at the ark and the AiG museum. Zip lines at both venues too. I've been to the Ark. In Aug 2016 I took this picture of Noah's Rain Bucket.

I drove right past on my way to Frankfort. Was actually going to stop in but it was too late in the day. I know I would have thoroughly enjoyed the "encounter."

Love the rough hewn flooring too. People should be required to dress in period clothing.

If we really had that kind of power, and such a goal, wouldn't we have won the war on Christmas by now?

Celebrate it as a Federal holiday on the last Monday that's a full week before New Year's so we get a three day weekend out of it., SOME years two 3-day weekends in a row!

If you want the 'traditional' Xmas off, it'll count against your vacation time.

OOoh, collocate the official celebrations of Christmas, Kwanza, and Hanukkah and make that Holiday Season Monday, so 'Season's Greetings' would be the only greeting allowed by the FCC, and only for one week.

I mean, if we can organize to defeat the almighty Lord and his servant Ken Hamm, we could easily make this happen, even in this administration.

It probably is. There is a lot of initial demand, which then tapers off. A similar thing happened with the Creation Museum.

Maybe if they showed more just how sinful life in that pre-Flood city was ...

As to the lack of development around the Ark, one has to consider that the park itself is pretty expensive ($40 for adult, $28 for a child, plus tax) and that thus your average YEC family will not have much disposable funds left over in their weekend getaway budget anyway. Admission for a family with 2 adults and 3 children is already $164 for a day. Add to that hotel stay (two hotels opened right outside the park, what more do those Williamsburgers expect, a fucking Ritz?) for maybe $150-$200 (two rooms), food ($70 a day if they subsist only on fast food) and gas for the Suburban (depends on where they drive from, but from Atlanta (eg) count $80 gas for the round trip). So just the necessities bring you to about $500.
And note that the Ark Encounter has a restaurant, which limits the need for dining options in the town.

Freedom from Religion Foundation's lawyers did send letters to school districts close to the Encounter, advising them that field trips to the Ark would be a violation of church/state. And Booya, Encounter!!
I think there should be, at a minimum, a Righteous Genocide Jericho Encounter. They could hire the Les Mis crew from B'way to construct falling walls that could be hoisted back up for each show. Ken could play the back end of the one of the dead donkeys.
I would visit The Onan Encounter if the Kentucky Christers would just build one. And yes, that one could have a Hooters on the same lot.
And why not Jehovah's Magic Sacrifice Encounter, with actual doves and sheep and what-not? Isn't that part of the Bible? A big part -- blood sacrifice runs through the whole book as the most consistent theme.
Leviticus Bridal Encounter could re-enact the stoning of a newly-wed who was found to be "not intact" on her wedding night. Bring the family, 'cause kiddies gotta learn.
And at some point, the Bible has to be reconciled with the Flintstones, which, after all, will buttress the Bible against all that crazy evolution nonsense. A man and his dinosaur.

.

Ask and you shall receive... I've been to the AiG's Creation Museum 4 times and the Ark 3x (and a dozen smaller creation museums in US and Canada). Don't judge me, I'm writing a book on creationism.

You'd think with all those scantily clad displays there'd be more redneck attendance.
