March for women. A message from Conservatives

Indeed, Linda Sarsour supports a husband's right to beat his wife or rape her. What's the problem ?

Well, one problem is that the Trumpettes have been trumpeting on about how the support of the KKK for a trump presidency does not reflect badly upon him. so then either that is not true, or the support of an 'extremist' for Women's Rights does not reflect badly on that event or issues that massive number of people are raising.

Right?

A strawman. If fact sooo bad it's a straw donkey argument. In the UK the Worker's Revolutionary Party, and the English Prostitutes Collective are against Trump so what is your point? I don't see any Democratic senators working as prostitutes.

What makes you think Don did not do what he claimed? There are several women who have accused him of various sexual miaconduct over the years.

His other brags about breaking into the changing rooms of Ms. Universe contestants to peep at unwilling naked women have been verified and are completely consistant with this one.

Several people accused Bill Clinton of various things. They didn't come to much. I like to see the proof about any of these charges and not hearsay.

It's a bit late to do the rape kit tests.

:mind boggling:

You may call it hearsay, but I call it a confession when what we are discussing a boast from the perpetrator.

Feminists are against enforcing the Hijab. Femi-nazis are unpredictable. I don't yet know how extreme Linda Sasour is on Islam.

Feminists are against enforcing the Hijab. They believe women have the right to choose to wear headscarves or not.

C'mon, guys, it's not that hard to understand.

Also, symbols can have more than one meaning. Context is important. An Indian friend of mine was given a beautiful wedding gift by his family, which had an embroidered swastika as its central decoration. This wasn't an endorsement of Nazism.

It's okay if it is a matter of choice.

They mean it as a message of inclusion and solidarity. It's out of good intentions, but it's complicated. There are Muslim women and ex-Muslim women who see the hijab as an object of oppression and are offended by promoting it as a norm. I wish people would stop using it and instead try to highlight Muslim women who don't cover up.

What do you suggest feminists do to demonstrate the courage of their convictions? March en mass? Hold the line on human rights and refuse to give way to forces that would deny or diminish them?

In that video you linked, Ms. Hirsi Ali sums up her presentation with her thoughts on what western feminists should do oppose the oppression of women in Islamic countries. She says: "The First Step is to Unapologetically Defend the Values that have allowed Women to Flourish." Certainly the millions of women who marched in Washington D.C. and in cities and towns worldwide, and who pledged to defend their rights and the rights of others, were doing just that.

BTW, I noticed that Ms. Hirsi Ali used a blatant quote mine to score a point against western feminists. She derides Eve Ensler while showing what she claims was Ms. Ensler dismissing the severity of the oppression of women in Islamic countries: 'This oppression is "exactly the same" around the world, in the West just as in Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and Iran' . Ms. Hirsi Ali says this shows how western feminism displays "too much moral relativism and an inadequate understanding of Sharia Law. "

However, if you take the time to find the source document and read what Ms. Ensler actually said ("Afghanistan is Everywhere") it becomes clear that Ms. Ensler did not downplay the severity of the oppression of women in other parts of the world; she did the opposite. In fact, Ms. Ensler did exactly what you and Ms. Hirsi Ali say feminists should do. She demonstrated the courage of her convictions and stood up for human rights.

So can we expect you to demonstrate the courage of your convictions and denounce the practice of misquoting the author of The Vagina Monologues in order to score some stupid 'point' about feminists?

What's that got to do with choosing whether to wear women should or should not have the right to wear a headscarf?

The simplicity is women have the right to choose whether or not they wear a headscarf. There's nothing specifically mentioned in the Koran on this.

It would be nice to see Muslim feminists and feminists more vocal in condemning treatment of women in Muslim countries where rights are lacking.

It would be nice if people could quit shaming women for what they think they should say, do and wear, regardless of risks they would take or consequences they would bear. Also regardless of the extent of which the shamers are actually informed about what women do and do not do.

If only men had the courage of their more secure and elevated position in society to actually quit oppressing women, minorities, non-white people, children, etc.

How about it, fellas?

3 sentences
The first sentence does not relate to what I said. True feminism pushes for women's rights everywhere. This is called empowereing.
The second point has relevance though my wife wears the trousers in the house.
The third sentence. How about what? Condoning ill treatment of women in other countries?

Hold her breath waiting for confused men to figure out that you don't decide what feminism is. You don't decide what women fight for or speak out about. Your opinion of women and women's issues is only relevant in that it contributes one more drop to the sea of ignorant, knee-jerk, programmed misogyny that makes the world such a welcoming, cozy place for predators and abusers.

Is that the hat you're wearing today, wp? Did you successfully complete a course on "handling" feminist SPs or is this just part of your personality to adopt whatever attitudes are suggested to men by our diseased society?

Heck, I would just settle for men become a bit better informed.

You're also going on about something different. Must be the silly hat falling over your eyes. At least the beak should stop it falling over too much.
While Muslims feminists (with feminists) in the USA are complaining about women's rights in the USA why do they remain silent of abuses of women in the Middle East (force to wear the burqa and nijab).
Women can wear what they want; but must also remember these requirements are not in the Quran.

I think you didn't read what I said.

The Feminists and Muslim feminists exercised their legal rights to protest against Trump. However why aren't they protesting the treatment of women in the Middle East who are forced to wear the Nijab and the Hijab. They are cultural which extend before the Koran which does not mention these. They can in fact be described as dress codes prescribed by men for women to obey. Women are free to wear what men tell them to wear but should not be forced to do so or not to do so.

I've lived and worked in Arab societies such as Qatar, Abu Dhabi, and Dubai and interacted with Sudanese corporations, and Egyptians, Palestinians, Lebanese and Iraqis so have a slight idea of how their societies work. You will see that when the husband and wives leave these countries they don't wear the hijab. I only saw one case of a woman keeping this on in several years

While I'm on about it, the Muslim women have been working hand in hand with the LBGTs against real and imagined ills, so will they also support LBGT and women's rights in the Middle East?? Oooh no perish the thought.
What is the symbol? A woman wearing clothes required by men with the US flag on it.
