Why Trump Won't Divest - or release his taxes - EVER

Lol! Yeah. nice girl, sticking up for a nice guy who is too nice to stick up for himself.
Gawd I hope he doesn't release his tax returns - I would be devastated if I couldn't match his YUUUGE contributions to so many worthy Charities like the Trump Founda - no, wait...

This harkens back to the 1840s when they gave drunks whiskey to vote for candidates. Now it is meth or maybe 4 double sized Red Bulls.

Trump doesn't want to release his income tax forms because there is absolutely nothing he can hide in it. Those other forms he did disclose, that is the big beef. Nothing at all to hide in the income tax forms... which is why he won't disclose them... because there is nothing he could possibly hide in them.

There's a reason we don't know what we don't know about Trump, and a reason Trump doesn't want people to know it.
Probably it's because he doesn't want to make ordinary people feel bad when they see how long and hard he worked to amass great wealth in order to support nearly infinite charities with massive donations - an effect that most of us can only dream of ever having. Trump is too kind to want anyone to feel lessened by his greatness.

Exactly!

Egad, I wish that were a caricature of a Trump supporter.

Well, I hope you're wrong. I hope Trump's assets are bringing him great wealth. And I hope he fights divestiture.
The only thing worse than a Trump presidency is a Trump presidency with nothing to loose. Using the office to enrich himself pales in comparison.

...well, there's a dark vision I had not indulged. I s'pose we will be better off letting him loot a few billion more, vs pissing him into a psychotic rage.

If Trump sold everything he "owns" and paid all his debts, he'd be penniless and in debt. He is a fraud. He has been living large for years off the cash flow of other people's money. The "King of Debt" can't release his tax returns, because the Emperor's New Clothes would be shown to be sheer rags, if even that.
I believe that if both Trump and I liquidated all our assets and paid all our debts, I'd have more left over than he would. In fact Trump's net worth would likely be a nine figure NEGATIVE number. He's desperate to use the presidency to create some actual net worth for himself, so that after four years he might have a pot to piss in, which he can the leverage into another cash-flow debacle that will let him live like a monarch for the rest of his miserable life.
I agree, and sadly, this makes him even more vulnerable to blackmail.

The winning bidders are probably already set. It's never enough... a little pay-for-play should help make up for shortfalls though.
The good news for the rest of us is that once Don the Con gets the pay, the play can be forgotten just like another bill from a small contractor.

Trump is owned by the Russian Mafia. I suspect they were getting to a point where they intend to collect some outstanding dept.
Trump had two choices, he could have handed his children over to the Russians for the sex trade industry and empty his cash accounts, or get protection from the US government by way of public office. Now it would take an act of war for the Russians to get ahold of him and his family.

This explains a lot, no?

We can argue till the cows come home how this Trump asshole got where he did. He has all the appearance of a half wit possibly with an IQ under 100. His election speaks poorly of the American people themselves. It is enough to let a clown like this join forces with the like of Ryan and McConnel to run our nation for the next four years. His family got rich on gambling and prostitution and hotels. The other two characters in this triangle will combine forces with him and create a miserable life for millions of Americans. He will end up blustering his way past ever revealing what his taxes were. He is not supposed to get past the fucking election without releasing his tax returns. If he has gotten this far on bluster, our people will probably let him last his entire term of office without revealing them or "trump up" some bogus ones. People whose lives are pretty comfortable won't give a fuck. People on the bottom will just have no access to anything. That is the Trump way of doing things.

IOW... the cows ain't coming home! :(
Not exactly a rosy vision there, Akirk. People on the bottom will still have a vote next cycle. I guess the question is whether they will realize within 4 years that they fucked themselves by electing Trump, or if it will take a full 8 years for that to become undeniable.

The problem is the US public didn't consider it had much to choose from and elected the least terrible. It normally takes 4 to 8 years for the electorate to feel they voted for the wrong person. :)

Gee, WP, you sure are good at divining the American gestalt from afar.
Guess you don't have to consider the various possible scenarios that could intervene, such as:
* Trump releases his taxes and it becomes even more apparent to even more people that he is a lying cheating scumbag who is in it only for himself
* Trump doesn't release his taxes, but the Russians or other mobsters to whom he owes money leak information about his dealings, and it becomes even more apparent to even more people that he is a lying cheating scumbag who is in it only for himself
* Trump divests his international interests and is broke and in debt, and it becomes even more apparent to even more people that he is a fraud
* Trump doesn't divest any of his interests and ends up in an ugly scene with both Dems and Pugs ripping on him, and it becomes even more apparent to even more people that he is a lying cheating scumbag who is in it only for himself

Now, if we have to wait for the people who voted for him to realize that they're even worse off than they were when they voted Trump in, it will probably be 8 years minimum - those are not the most self-aware folks on the planet...

If it is required he should do once the audit is completed. Meanwhile you can speculate.
I get the impression you may not have voted for Trump :)

It occurs to me that Trump can't divest--because that would leave him unable to cover up the fact that he's actually deep in debt.

:(:(:( sadly, you both may be right
