Hillary picks her VP

Im not crazy about it, but they have a democratic governor so he'll pick another dem to replace Kaine. I guess it's a safe pick and he is similar to Biden, in fact he almost got Biden's job.

It's sounding like she's going to pick some bland and generic white guy. It would be nice if she stretched a bit and did something unconventional, but it's not like her campaign is in any kind of trouble and she needs to shake things up and take some risks.

For a slam dunk win, she should pick John Kasich. :D

That would actually be a genius move lol

To me, this indicates that this is going to be the Hillary Show 24/7. She didn't pick an attack dog because she intends on taking that role.

Yeah that.

Chris Hayes had a good point, though. Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren, Sherrod Brown - they will be far more effective as committee leaders in Congress than they would be as V.P.'s. As congresscritters, they can also continue to force HRC to the left.

Only thing I am worried about is that the combination of the irrational hatred for HRC by some on the far-left and the ZZZZZZZZZZ factor of Tim Kaine will depress voter turn-out

I figure Kaine will reassure white male voters. Maybe help with Hispanic voters.

I don't know a lot about him, other than he didn't sound stupid during his speech.

Hillary couldn't pick someone who might overshadow her. It's fatal in any presidential race and moreso if you would be the first (fill in blank).

He's about as liberal as you can get for having been a Governor of Virginia. So, he's a left-leaning moderate on the Democratic scale.

I worked an event recently for the American Bankers Association which is smaller regional banks. They are getting screwed by the mega banks. The wiki article (not the best source, but time is limited) said that Kaine wanted to have less harsh rules applied to them since they did not cause the 2008 crisis. Sounds reasonable, anyone with more info please fill us in.

Tim Kaine's first speech here in Miami seems to be going well. I had a ticket to attend, but ended up having a work appointment at noon; so I'm watching it on television now.

He immediately won the audience by speaking fluent Spanish, and has been listing his progressive bonafides. Miami was a very good choice as the first city to present him. For a Kansas white guy, his story is impressively resonate in a city like Miami.

He spent 17 years as a successful civil rights attorney before entering politics, which should matter to Bernie's hard-core followers if they actually care more about the issues than the cult of Bernie.

He has consistently stood up to the NRA.

His son is active Marine.

He has been a Mayor, a Governor and a Senator.

It looks to me like Hillary did her homework and chose a person that has about the best possible points of appeal across the broadest spectrum - including minorities, far-left progressives, near-middle Dems, white men, the mid-west, the coasts...

This is going to be interesting

As much as the photoshop is making me gag a little, it's got a point! Hillary Clinton and Tim Kaine looked amazingly good together. Their styles mesh very nicely, and they have good chemistry.

I was impressed. Also impressed with how quickly teh Donald piled on Kaine. Made me wonder.... is there a danger for Trump that as Tim develops as Hillary's attack dog, it might make Trump look like Mikey's attack dog?

That's very true. They compliment each other very well. He is a lot of things that Hillary isn't, he comes across as charming and warm, but more than that they seem to be very comfortable with each other.

In that respect, you could say that she is getting Bill Clinton as VP.

There seems to be a real contrast though. when Kaine was going after Trump he did it so smoothly that it almost didn't seem like an attack. When Trump attacks, he does so with vitriol.

Trump looks, acts and sounds like a bully. He's a bully when he thinks the other person is doing better than him, and he is a bully when he thinks the other person is down for the count.

At the beginning of this election cycle, I actually thought he was just playing to the Republican base. Now, after the release of so much information about him from years and years ago, I realize he has always been a vile human being. Making it this far in the presidential race may actually be the death knell for Trump's "brand". I suspect that most people where like me - thinking he was a somewhat obnoxious self-promoter, but essentially OK.

Now too many people know differently
