Horns Up Heavy Metal fans?

Huge Kittie fan here! I loved Spit but lost track of them a bit during the middle of their career so far, only to have rediscovered them a few years ago. I caught them on an early stop in their tour for Into the Black when they played a fairly small venue here. It was a great show, and I got Morgan to sign my CD after the show. She seemed really cool. I'd seen her come out and watch one of the opening acts for a bit, and I'd also seen Mercedes walking around earlier.

Agree that the new Lamb of God stuff is pretty awesome. I'm digging 512 a lot right now.

I've been digging the new Ghost album as well. Thanks for the link to the new Baroness tune, Smoker, I didn't know they had anything out for the upcoming album yet. Clutch has a new album coming out in September, here is the first single:

I'm a big fan of Kittie too, and I always try to go see them play when they're in town. They never disappoint.

I had the pleasure of being at the last show on Lamb of God and Slipknot's latest tour three days ago. 512 was the last song that LoG played and it was amazing. I've never seen a bigger mosh pit. Seriously, like 1/3 of the whole lawn section was moshing to that song. They also started a fire in the middle of it. Good times.

Not sure if you know or not but there is also a bonus track. I didn't realize it until a few days ago. I'm also looking forward to that new Clutch album and their tour with Mastodon.

I've been listening to it on Google Music, and the bonus track is not included, so thanks, it's a cool song.

Clutch and Mastodon are only doing a handful of shows together, and none of them are in St. Louis, which sucks because it would have meant a bigger venue, possibly with seats (not that I would ever get a chance to sit down during a Clutch concert). I will be seeing Clutch on October 16th, however, and Corrosion of Conformity will be opening for them. Despite being a long time CoC fan, I have never seen them live, and I have seen Mastodon a couple of times, so I am stoked about that.

I got a gift card to a book store for my birthday, so I went looking for a book to get. The only one that popped out at me was a book called Metal and Hardcore Graphics by Cristian Campos. It's basically a collection of a lot of badass artwork done for metal bands like their concert posters and album covers. I've been reading through it and listening to some of the bands in there I've never heard of before, and here's a few that I've enjoyed.

I have been digging Uncle Acid for a few years now. Their best album so far IMO is Mind Control, which updates their sound just a bit from previous albums. They have a new album that came out this summer, The Night Creeper, but I have only had a chance to listen to it once or twice. First impression is that, while not quite as good as Mind Control, it is definitely worth a listen. It will probably grow on me.

I had not heard the other two bands, before. Ketizer sounds pretty good, I will have to go looking for some more of their music. They seem to be a bit on the Thrash end of the Death Metal spectrum, so there is a whole lot to like there for me.

Jucifer just does not do it for me, the vocals sound awful. They were way too thin and screechy, so I could only stand it for about a minute. In that minute I didn't really hear anything else from the band that stood out. The guitar work seemed sub-par, and the percussion was too cymbal heavy, which made for a headache inducing combination with the vocals. To each their own, though, if you dig it then enjoy!

Hi smoker. Keitzer is very Shadows Fall soundy. Heven't heard them til now so thank you. I have been addicted to Sleep, Electric Wizard, Magic Circle, Dystopia and bands of that nature. Would you say tht all falls under "Doom Metal" addiction? I ask because these bands you linked lately supposedly are, I dunno tho really.

I went to see Clutch and Corrosion of Conformity Friday night, it was an awesome show, as is expected from clutch. A band called The Shrine was the opening act for CoC, I had not heard of them before, but they kicked some ass. I talked with the lead singer/lead guitarist (they are a 3 piece band) for a bit after the show, he is a really cool dude. Check them out:

Man, I didn't realize it had been almost 2 years since we had this thread active. Gojira's album from last year, Magma, is fantastic. One of my favorite albums of the year. Here is a track from another one of my favorite albums from 2016:

The closest I get to Metal is Nine Inch Nails, who are more industrial but with a similar vibe. Even then, I don't listen to them much.

Metal's always seemed ragey and intense to me. Nothing wrong with rage and intensity, but I don't feel a lot of that so no drive to listen to it.

NIN certainly gets into the rage as well, but industrial music has a lot in common with metal. I think most would consider it a sub-genre of metal. Metal, however, is extremely varied these days. The music is often aggressive, but there are metal ballads galore to choose from, and the message can range from uplifting to just plain silly, though you are accurate in as far as "rage and intensity" being where most metal songs fit.

@Thomas II - That is an awesome video. When you are as great of a guitarist as Zakk Wylde, you can make any guitar sound good.

A lot of the music I choose to listen to these days depends on the mood I'm in, which is rarely rage.

Not only that but metal is often the polar opposite of what I'm likely to listen to. Usually I'm in to more chill, relaxed, cool, calm, soulful music. Might partly be a product of my personality, another part of it might be introversion. I rarely crave music that's too upbeat, regardless of genre, which I've come to understand is often correlated with the extraversion spectrum. I'd assume metal fans lean heavily extrovert.
