California Doing California Things

My mind is blown. Who could have predicted this?
That the guy's fiancée and his lawyer are defending him? Absolutely unpredictable, sure.
Don't worry Tswizxle, Beave, etc, I know you don't believe a word of it. I mean you can tell he's a criminal just by looking at him, right?
Just because he might have been aquitted of murder in El Salvador does not mean he is not here illegally, is not a gang member or that did not try to use his vehicle as a weapon when stopped.
Ah, sorry Derec, didn't mean to exclude you from the list.

He then went on to kill Kate Steinle, after which a SF jury allowed him to get away with that one as well.
Code for: he was tried before a jury of his peers and found to be innocent of the crime he was accused of (murder), but he was an undocumented immigrant and illegally possessed a firearm, so he was deported anyway.

Step 1: Insist it's really about murder, not paranoid terror of foreigners.
It is about murder, but not just about murder.
Illegals picked up on lesser crimes should be deported, not released into the wild, as sanctuary jurisdictions are doing.
And murderers rarely start out with that. Usually they get picked up for other crimes before graduating to murder.
Step 2: Continue to ignore the murder part.
Who is ignoring "the murder part"?
Step 3: Go on and on about "illegals" and how dangerous and threatening they all are.
I still do not understand why certain people on here do not think criminal illegals should be deported, or why it is a good policy for so-called "sanctuary" jurisdictions to release them into the community (which necessitates ICE raids to apprehend them) instead of transferring them to ICE custody.
Step 4: Vote for a dictator because he hates the same people you do.
I certainly do not do that. I voted for Trump a grand total of zero times. But I do understand that Dems' attitude toward illegal mass migration was among the many missteps by the Democratic Party that helped Trump get elected, and then reelected.

No problem whatsoever. ;)

Which illustrates the problems inherent with the jury system - it's made up of average people who are guided more by emotions than facts.

Zárate shot and killed Steinle. There was no doubt about that. Even if it was accidental, as he claims, it would be manslaughter, which was a lesser included offense. And had SF not have a policy to release criminal illegals into the community, instead of honoring immigration detainers, he never would have killed Steinle to begin with.

It is inconceivable to me that you and your Ilk think that this acquittal is defensible, but also think that the accidental killing of George Floyd is murder that deserves a quarter century in prison. I guess some animals really are more equal than others. :rolleyesa:

My actual position on both of the situations you describe is a bit more nuanced than you suggest, though it's true that I do not form my opinions on legal cases based on what right-wing media claims is true or false.

My actual position on both of the situations you describe is a bit more nuanced than you suggest,
Can you explain the nuance? For example, what do you think should happen with illegal aliens who are arrested in a "sanctuary" jurisdiction? Should these authorities release them into the wild or honor immigration detainers?
though it's true that I do not form my opinions on legal cases based on what right-wing media claims is true or false.
There you go again, dismissing anything that goes against the left-wing narrative as "right-wing media". Which of the facts I presented are you disputing? And do you have a media account that you think presents a more accurate picture, and why?

You know the "facts" of every case before you hear them. My method is different; I consider evidence, then decide. And no, a "media account" is not a meaningful source of evidence. Ideologies cannot create the world, it exists independently of them.

The governor's race in general is just depressing to think about. Apparently every single candidate has a higher unfavorability rating than favorable. At present, two Republicans are leading the race, not because either is well liked, but because only two Republican candidates are splitting that party's vote, as opposed to eight or so on the "Democrat" side. The only certain outcome is that whoever wins, no one will be especially excited.

Why any Californian would vote Republican in this election boggles my mind. The Trump administration declared war on us. Do these people have any loyalty at all?

We really need either Swalwell or Porter to drop out. Don't care which.
We may see that clown Swalwell drop out sooner rather than later:

Exclusive: Four women describe sexual misconduct by Rep. Eric Swalwell, including a former staffer who says he raped her

A former staffer of Rep. Eric Swalwell, a leading Democratic candidate for California governor, says that the congressman raped her when she was heavily intoxicated and left her bruised and bleeding, an allegation Swalwell strongly denies.

“I was pushing him off of me, saying no,” the woman told CNN of the incident, which she said happened in 2024 after she had stopped working in Swalwell’s office. “He didn’t stop.”

She said it was the second time Swalwell had nonconsensual sexual contact with her while she was drunk. In 2019, when she was still working for him, she said she woke up naked with him in a hotel room after a night of heavy drinking. She said she had no memory of what happened but could feel physically that they’d had sexual contact.

Will he drop out, or just lose his lead and continue to be a severe problem? It does sound like he is rapidly losing endorsements and financial backing, though. No great loss to the party, if this is the end of his career.

The democratic candidates for governor of California is the most bizarre collection of lunatics I have ever seen.
I think Katie Porter is the head lunatic at this point. You gotta be pretty bonkers to dump a bowl of hot mashed potatoes on your husband's head.
Apparently either Donald Trump's brother or father dumped a bowl of mashed potatoes on young Donald's head while he was misbehaving at the dinner table.

Frankly, I know nothing about any of the candidates, but dumping a bowl of mashed potatoes on an ex's head would not dissuade me from supporting a candidate.

Oh she’s a very weird lady. I was surprised she was married. Probably a lavender marriage.
