If Trump sold everything he "owns" and paid all his debts, he'd be penniless and in debt. He is a fraud. He has been living large for years off the cash flow of other people's money. The "King of Debt" can't release his tax returns, because the Emperor's New Clothes would be shown to be sheer rags, if even that.
I believe that if both Trump and I liquidated all our assets and paid all our debts, I'd have more left over than he would. In fact Trump's net worth would likely be a nine figure NEGATIVE number. He's desperate to use the presidency to create some actual net worth for himself, so that after four years he might have a pot to piss in, which he can the leverage into another cash-flow debacle that will let him live like a monarch for the rest of his miserable life.

I'd add that it also might have a lot to do with the Russians. He owes them. I think that Putin and his allies saved his ass. Invested in his companies (hence inability to release returns which would show his investors).

go to the 44:30 mark of this video to hear Ivanka say that when she was about 9 years old (~1991) her dad said he was about 8 billion in debt.

Very likely... but we don't know, do we? I can't think of another reason that he is standing alone denying Russia's involvement, unless it's something even more sinister.

It's Russian mobster money.

Well, another reason is pretty simple: Donnie wants to win. Always. Everywhere. And if the facts does not show he really *won*, he starts swinging around...
Of course he won the popular vote. It was rigged!
Of course the Russians didn't hack it so he could win. He won all by himself and his genius campaign of awesomeness!

And now smack on his inability to ever admit any mistakes or wrongs and doubling down on anything he ever said (save for the fake groping excuse which wasn't really an excuse).

His behavior is actually pretty logical and predictable in this regard.

In retrospect, I really enjoyed the era when facts were facts, and truth was truth... as long as it lasted. :(

Lies and politics have always gone hand in hand, but in the past, the lies were typically spin, not flat out lies with no basis at all in truth.

Yes, when the sky was blue, the lies were about it being a bit pinkish or purplish. Now it's lime green. E.g. Trump won the popular vote.

Too lazy to look this up now, but didn't Trump University have a lot a sketchy people running it?

Obviously if Trump was $10 billion in the black there is no way he would do Trump U. Even if he was in the red in a normal way to non mafia-ish people (Russian, Jewish or italian) he probably wouldn't do Trump U.

My guess is that his creditors came to him with Trump U as a way for him to work off his debt to them by having their people running it.

A large part of Trump's wealth comes from licensing his name. I think he had more involvement with Trump University than other endeavors, but it's all about branding.

I think there are some Trump documentaries and long form articles from well before he announced his Prez run that talk about who bailed him out of his debts. I need to watch and read them.

The advertising indicated that Trump was very involved with the University. Turns out, he was as involved as with many of his other things... ie not very much at all.

There's a reason we don't know what we don't know about Trump, and a reason Trump doesn't want people to know it.
Probably it's because he doesn't want to make ordinary people feel bad when they see how long and hard he worked to amass great wealth in order to support nearly infinite charities with massive donations - an effect that most of us can only dream of ever having. Trump is too kind to want anyone to feel lessened by his greatness.

Or maybe that's not it...
Maybe we already know all the nicest things about Donald, like how he honors his contracts with small businesses, how he confers invaluable education upon sincere seekers for a bargain price in his University, and how much he respects women...
Maybe the stuff we don't know isn't quite as flattering as all that.
But we need to give him the benefit of the doubt, right? Therefore, maintaining doubt is of the highest priority. Let's all resist the urge to jump to conclusions, shall we?

Exactly!

Lol! Yeah. nice girl, sticking up for a nice guy who is too nice to stick up for himself.
Gawd I hope he doesn't release his tax returns - I would be devastated if I couldn't match his YUUUGE contributions to so many worthy Charities like the Trump Founda - no, wait...
