In an interview with Bill O'Reily, Trump talked about he could easily stop all shootings/murders happening in Chicago. When asked how, Trump said,
"By being very much tougher than they are. Right now they are not tough. I asked a couple of top police officers in Chicago if they could stop it, and they said 'Mr. Trump, I'd be able to stop it in one week.' And I believed they could."

The Chicago Tribune were told that Trump never talked to any top police officer, at which point Trump back-peddled claiming by "top official" he merely meant "capable, smart, and talented" qualities he had no basis to infer about them other than that they said what he wanted to hear.

It is likely that he never talked to any police officers at all, but regardless, the fact that he lied should not be the main aspect that is focused on.
Far more important is that Trump believes that shootings in Chicago could be stopped in 1 week. No matter where one falls on the entire ideological spectrum regarding beliefs about the main underlying the cause of such shootings, Trump's belief they could be "stopped in 1 week" is so absurdly irrational and idiotic that by itself it proves a level of mental incompetence that disqualifies him from holding any public office. BTW, any police officer that said such a thing should be immediately fired for the same reason.

It is incredible that he'd just make that sort of thing up. Not that he talked to an officer, but that he apparently thinks all the killing can be stopped in a week. Talk to NYC. They saw a substantial drop in violence... over a couple of decades! Trump just says anything. The only way to stop murder in a week is to deploy troops.

Exactly. Look at the complete lack of crime in Baghdad and Fallujah when US troops were there.

At what point is it that you cannot even respond to the stuff that Trump says anymore?
 
It occurred to me that Trump back in the spring said he'd pay off the US debt in 8 years, so I suppose this isn't without precedent.

I remember for the very short time the US was running the closest thing to a surplus it has ever done in a long time, W was cautioning about paying off all the debt, because it doesn't actually work that way. People buy debt by buying bonds. You can't just pay off a bond that hasn't matured (at least, I don't think you can).

We weren't ever deployed there... which is why the occupation failed in many aspects, because we didn't have the man power needed to occupy the country. Chicago is smaller than Iraq. I think if we sent in a lot of troops, that stop the killing. Of course, it wouldn't be a good idea to deploy troops. I'm just thinking what could possibly work that quickly.

Vote for me.

I plan to massively increase what is already the highest incarceration rate in the civilized world.

I plan to put the police into the streets in force.

House to house searches looking for "illegals".

I plan to deport some secret number of Muslims for the crime of being Muslim.

And all this is going to make people forget that opportunity is shrinking and costs, like tuition, are skyrocketing.
 
There's a pattern here. The Orange Turd is now saying that illegals are coming up to him and giving him advice on immigration. Wow, such an approachable guy!

I'm armchair psychoanalyzing Trump here, but I think Trump is projecting his own personality on the criminals here and thinks that they commit crimes for the same reasons he does.

Trump breaks binding legal contracts BECAUSE HE CAN. He doesn't worry about the little guys or the victims of his thuggish legal tactics because he only picks on weaklings. But if there were actual biting consequences to acting like a corporate thug Trump would straighten up in... about a week.

Trump doesn't understand that some criminals commit crimes because they are desperate, or psychotic, or incensed by passion and/or drugs, or just plain stupid. It just doesn't occur to him.

The way to stop thugs like Trump is to be tougher than the thugs. And that's the only thing Trump thinks about so he thinks that solution would solve all the crime anywhere ... in about a week.
 
There is a TED Talk radio show about lying.Could be part of human evolution.Before written language lying was easier.With the internet,not so much.
Maybe Trump is more prehistoric than he looks.

Trump calls Clinton a liar, a bigot, crooked etc. All of these terms apply more to Trump, but he loves to project his own negative qualities on others and apparently never sees these things in himself. He does this to anyone that disagrees or criticizes him.

I tend to think he's manic as well. He barely sleeps, thinks he can do anything, loves attention etc. These traits are very common among those who are manic. Even without a diagnosis, he's obviously not mentally stable.

That's the thing though. Even if criminals only committed crimes "because they can", there is nothing sort of literally nuking Chicago that could possibly cut crime in Chicago by even 10% in a week (and 10% is absurdly generous). Even military occupation would not do it. "Tough" laws mean nothing without being able to guarantee that nearly every law breaker would be caught. Even a small increase in the likelihood of getting caught requires hiring and training massive additional numbers of cops which would take months even if the money and will were there to do it.

So the problem is not merely his moronic assumptions about the causes of crime, but even the most pathetically simple-minded theories of crime predict it would take years to put a major dent in Chicago crime rates. Quite seriously, few mentally disabled people would fail to see the inane idiocy of his statement, which makes the fact that he said it proof of his dangerous incompetence to hold any office.
 
That's the thing about Trump, and especially his ardent followers. It's simple solutions. Just be tough. Tough cops, tough military, tough weapons. All very simple.
