Stephen Colbert to take over the Late Show

I like Colbert but not happy about this, that he will be doing a straight talk show.

I have no choice but to place the Late Show and Colbert On Notice.

Obvious question: is he going to do this in character? If not, is he retiring the character? If he retires the character, who becomes the next official fake right wingnut of Comedy Central?

I am also hoping that he doesn't retire his character. The last thing television needs is yet another safe, non-offensive, stale late night variety show. The only thing that could possibly be worse would be hearing that Colbert was leaving to star in some new cop drama on CBS.

From what I heard, no. It's a change, to be sure, but I'm interested in seeing what the guy can do when he's no longer playing his character.

I've seen occasional interviews with him out of character. There's even one of him out of character interviewing Neil deGrasse Tyson. I'm sure he'll be fine, but I will miss the character.

Today's trivia:

Jennifer Garner used to babysit for Stephen Colbert's kids.

He's witty, insightful, smooth and pretty darned smart. I expect him to be very good.

This news about drove Rush Limbaugh into an epileptic fit, which is amusing in itself.

Best part of the whole thing so far. What a self-absorbed asshole Rush is.

Check out Rush Limbaugh take on it:

“I’ll give you the short version: CBS has just declared war on the heartland of America. No longer is comedy going to be a covert assault on traditional American values, conservative values — now it’s just wide out in the open. What this hire means is a redefinition of what is funny and a redefinition of what is comedy and they’re blowing up the 11:30 format under the guise of ‘the world’s changing.’”

Thank you for the written excerpt. I can't listen to that man's voice without barfing, so the excerpt was helpful in keeping my dinner down :D

Well to be fair, Limbaugh is a clown, and nothing he says should be taken seriously.

Everything Rush Limbaugh sees in the world is a strain on his cardiovascular system. How is it that he is even alive?

I would have preferred a woman, especially one from S.N.L. As long as CBS likes him, he has a job.

It is incredible how they can be insulted by just about anything... despite the typically insulting attitudes they have for anyone that isn't them or shares their beliefs.
