Who else had a problem with predation?

As a ten-year-old, I was ok with God creating plants, and God creating animals to eat the plants, but creating animals to eat other animals with a nervous system - that tipped me into heresy.

I remember when I started moving from my ancestral Catholicism to agnosticism.

It was the first day of 2nd grade at Holy Angels School. Our teacher, a very imposing nun, put a big glass jar with a slot in the lid on her desk. She announced that she expected us kids to fill it with small change by the end of the school year. So Mother Church could feed poor kids.

I thought about that for a couple of minutes. Then I asked her, "How much is Jesus putting in there?"
Much hilarity ensued.

I didn't learn anything about Jesus. But I did learn not to ask questions of grown-up people about God unless you already know the answer. Because if they don't have an answer they'll get really angry. So I didn't ask any more.

I just listened and learned.

Nobody knows anything important about God.

I suppose when I was ten, I wouldn't have been that much affected in the same way as either of you. I may have easily forgotten about it, since I've always been partial to bacon and sausage sandwiches as a child, what more a 'Sunday Roast'?

...but having said that, I realised much later in life, humans 'preying' on humans (biblically described a fallen world). I came to the conclusion, people could do with Jesus.

Parasites especially for me. That's fucked up. But somehow divinely created? Or diseases like Rabies, or how about Polio before the vaccine existed.
