NBA (24-25)

Yeah, the English (and Welsh, Channel Islands and Isle of Man) club system with promotion and relegation is an amazing thing. Literally any FA affiliated and registered club can theoretically end up at the top of the EPL, if they just win in their league's seasonal league competition a dozen or more times.

Equally, any club can be relegated all the way down to the bottom of the system.

So in principle, a club in the Manchester League Division Two (such as the mighty Eccles United FC) could be promoted to the EPL in just thirteen (incredibly successful) seasons. Though in practice they would need significant financial resources to meet the eligibility requirements for the top divisions (which have increasingly onerus minimum standards for home stadia, for example).

Certainly there is nothing whatsoever to stop Manchester United from falling to the Manchester League Division Two, some thirteen league divisions below the EPL, in just thirteen disastrous seasons*.

Few other sporting systems have such an open system; Mostly the "Top Teams" are selected not by on-field performance, but by their numbers of supporters and hence their ability to attract money - from advertising, TV broadcast fees, merchandise sales, and even match day ticket sales.

* I would pay good money to see that happen

Wimbledon AFC rose from the Phoenix's ashes and got up to League One. Not very common though.

Well this trip out west went well enough for the Cavaliers.

Back to back with GS and the Lakers, both Anthony Davis and LeBron James played. With the Mavericks, both Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving were out so that made it kind of easy in Dallas. Another one where the Cavs could take their foot off the gas in the fourth quarter. In fact they had blowout quarters in Denver and San Francisco too. And they're not wearing out any of their starters to accomplish this. Their time on the floor is being kept at about 30 minutes.
A modicum of national recognition is finally starting to trickle in on this small market team. Yahoo finally broke down and recognized the Cavs existence.

Next Wednesday, Oklahoma City 29-5 is in town. I haven't seen OK play at all this year.

Cavs beat the other top team in the NBA, Oklahoma City, ending their run of 15 straight wins, to continue their own at 11 straight wins, which included a west coast trip! 7 players with double digits, two players with double-double. This Cavs team is surreal.

Cavs appear to have down to Earth, but are still playing among the best teams in the league.

The West is crazy tight.

But this is crazier still. Wonder what the story is here.

I like the idea of teams playing into the playoffs, but if you are below 0.500, you shouldn't be allowed in.

Cavs season started on the moon and ended no where near where they were, but at a great altitude. Regular seasons is about over and now the next season starts.

The Playoffs are going a little wonky in the Second Round.

Injury riddled Cavs down 2-0 to Indiana. Will jet lag also influence the series?

Boston are down 2-0 to the Knicks as well. Will Train Lag impact this series?

7 seed Golden *bleeping* State is up 1-0, but without Curry for at least one game.

OKC tied up their series 1-1.

From SI website:
“The Athletic reports that there is "optimism" that Darius Garland, Evan Mobley, and De'Andre Hunter will all play for the Cleveland Cavaliers in Game 3 vs. the Indiana Pacers.”

I hope so. Game one was an uncharacteristically bad day out at the arc for the Cavs and an exceptionally good day for the Pacers.
Game two the Cavs were beat up and it looked like they were damn near putting their bench out there to start.
Healthy all year until now. Frustrating.

Game five results in Cleveland leave city thinking the NBA Final probably not happening this year.

The Cavs had an absurd opening of the season. Came down to Earth, and finished very respectably. The playoffs can be a bear, though. They won the first round but injuries crushed them and the Pacers move on.

The wife and I were hoping for a Cavs-Thunder finals. Too bad about the Cavs. We're still rooting for the Thunder.

I went down to Times Square the night the Yankees won the World Series and started their run of dominance back in the mid/late 90s. It wasn't that crazy. Of course, people didn't have smart phones yet either.
