Emails - the gift that won't ^&%$$^$^&*! stop giving

At what point will it be possible to actually talk about this stuff without the canned reply of 'Trump is worse'?

On November 9th. Bill Maher said it best that whatever pet issue you have and however important it is to you, that importance is a distant second to making sure that Donald Trump never gets into the Oval Office. If you want a President Clinton kept in line, have a Democratic House and Senate keep her in line.

By then this issue will have fallen into the memory hole, and also I'm capable of walking and chewing gum at the same time.

How exactly does Maher's statement relate to a political discussion board off in a remote corner of the internet?

So we are treated to Clinton v Trump instead.

There's always going to be another election - so we may as well give Clinton preemptive mandate to do anything in her first term. Indeed, in 2024 the Republican candidate will likely be distasteful so then too literally anything is acceptable.

At what point will it be possible to actually talk about this stuff without the canned reply of 'Trump is worse'?
Trump isn't just worse. He is wholly unqualified for the position. The right-wing media empire has poisoned the well that a person like Sanders likely can't win because while people want an outside-ish, upright citizen to be President, they sure the fuck let themselves be sold another bill of goods. Just think of Carter.

The people gave us Trump and Clinton to choose from. I didn't, you didn't. They did. And as usual we must choose from what the majority (or in Trump's case, plurality) have selected. It sucks.

The only people that care about the emails are folks that wouldn't vote for Hillary in the first place.

So even accepting that, and accepting that Sanders isn't going to be the candidate we can't discuss the actual issue here because talking about it will swing the election? Is Mercury in retrograde or something?

Bullshit, and I'll be happy to send a photo of my ballot come November if you want to put your money where your mouth is. If you're uninterested then the easy thing to do is to speak for yourself.

Unless of course your pet issue is tearing the whole thing down. Then Trump would be your go to guy.

We can talk, we can hold her feet to the fire. We can do a number of things. The unfortunate truth is that unless Clinton is elected President, the Supreme Court is going to all hell. Why do you think Citizens United happened in the first place?

why and/or how?
trump isn't some crazy anti-system rebel or anarchist, he's just male sarah palin - a slightly baffled dipshit spewing out word salad that conservatives keep bending themselves over backwards to defend and support, and who liberals act like this is some new thing that we haven't seen again and again from republicans.

No need to photo your ballot.

Trump is a caricature of a Sarah Palin. Liberals are aghast that the Trump has free fallen in the polls yet! He has set new records for being able to really get away with saying anything. A cold and unidirectional microphone ended Howard Dean's Presidential run. Publicly mocking so many people like a bully hasn't harmed Trump much at all. Even throwing a baby out of a speaking engagement cost Trump only about 5 points in the polls.

I agree that Trump isn't an uber-conservative who is setting his sight on dismantling DC. He'd need policy ideas to accuse him of this. But his resilience is unprecedented in DC in the modern era.

you're making me really want to post some snarky and broadly generalized statement about the hilariously short political attention span of americans and how even though nominally interested in politics (like yourself) apparently have no capacity whatsoever to retain memories from one election cycle to the next.

trump hasn't done or said a single thing which is outside of the norm for republican presidential candidates for at least the last 20 years, and his "resilience" isn't surprising at all because republican voters have traditionally rallied the wagons pretty hard around their candidate regardless of who it is, and especially if it's some kind of infantile id-driven nit wit.
seeing as how last election cycle they had plenty of crazy in the primaries and ended up with the milquetoast shredded wheat candidate, it's not surprising at all that the republicans have collectively swung the other way to bring out the most batshit of the litter.
likewise, the democrats got the far-out-there pick the last time around, so went with the most boring establishment drudge they could come up with this time.

none of this is any different from the usual cycle of politics - or at least isn't any different than it has been during my lifetime.
i don't know why some of you keep wanting to pretend like this is all some shocking new development.

Status Quo - Hillary wants to kill the 2nd Amendment.
Not Status Quo - Kill President Hillary Clinton to save the 2nd Amendment.

I'd like some examples, please. The Baby Incident, Megan Kelly (her reproductive cycle), Carly Fiorina (her looks), Clinton (kill her, ha ha)? This is not business as usual.

We had the attacks on Obama for his religion (Jeremiah Wright to secret Muslim), Kerry for his honor (Swift Boat Vets for cash payouts to talk shit), George W. Bush (subliminal ad, the wolves ad). That shit was tiring, unethical, status quo for the Republicans. But it hadn't gotten to this point.

that is absolutely the status quo.

i think it was sarah palin who said something about using a '2nd amendment solution' against obama during the run up to the election, does nobody else remember that?

it absolutely is - and do you want me to just quote you everything said and done during the last 4 presidential cycles?
from the BS that bush pulled during his two elections (accusing mccain of being pro-cancer, the whole mixed-race baby thing) and during his presidency (heckuva job brownie, watch my drive) to really just about anything bush ever did...
a verb a noun and 9/11, shucky ducky, whatever the fuck ben carson was on for the last 6 months, every single second that sarah palin has been breathing... i mean, did you get roofied earlier this year and just black out about the last 20 years of politics?

we had attacks on obama for being a non-american kenyan muslim anti-christ, attacks on kerry for being a gold digger, bush flat out accused mccain of having an illegitimate mixed race baby and being pro cancer.
politics hasn't changed, what's changed is that our national institutions and our collective zeitgeist have just stopped bothering to pretend like we're upset by any of this.

trump is the conservative political system made flesh, he's every dog whistle and sly implication the GOP has been using to get bigoted redneck poors to vote for a party that stands for nothing but making the rich richer and fucking over minorities, people without money, and the environment... but not bothering with the dog part anymore, just being a whistle.
he's not doing anything that every other GOP candidate has done for the last 20 years, he's just not bothering to hide it for the cameras, and people aren't bothering to pretend to be scandalized by it.

mind you, none of this is a defense of trump or an excusing of anything about him - yes trump is vile and ridiculous and all that - but he's also no different (nor any more or less vile or ridiculous or dangerous) than any other prominent GOP candidate has been since i've been alive and old enough to be aware of politics.

They will be too terrified to keep her in line.

What is needed to restrain Killary is a staunchly divided government. Even then they'll still be united on the issue of killing foreign brown people.

A divided government is good if there are two rational sides. The GOP isn't capable of adding anything to the legislative process and needs to be fired en masses so that the non-crazies have a chance of becoming a respectable opposition two years from now.

Neither is Killary. We'll have madness opposed to madness and the hope that the two will cancel each other out long enough to give America some breathing room.

It's astounding that you put Clinton's level of insanity even in the same ballpark as Trump's. That's like saying someone with an anxiety disorder is the same as someone who wears people's faces while he eats them.

Clinton isn't most anyone's first choice, but she's nowhere near Trump.

Clinton wants to kill. Start and end with that. She can't wait to get control of the military so that she can kill. She has never seen a use of the military that she doesn't approve of, and was the driving force behind Obama being the first peace prize winner to give us eight years of war. As much as he EXPANDED the Bush wars, it was her pushing him to do so and he restrained her from going into even more war. Clinton wants to kill. She wants blood on her hands. That sums up everything about Clinton.

The difference between a psychopath and a psychotic is that one has no conscience and the other doesn't know what reality is. Both commit atrocities, but for different reasons.

Holy shit. The above is shocking! Please provide some links for the above so that I can tell all my friends!
