Jewish Extremism in Israel, Maverick Rabbi Denounces Discriminatory Laws

Conservative Movement rabbis vote unanimously to nullify religious edicts that discriminate against non-Jewish people.
-----

This is an eyeopening article. The conservative Rabbis in Israel pretty much have a lot of power, but some of their ideas are truly abominable.

----

Hammer says he was also aggravated by the frequent racist statements of Yosef’s father Ovadia, a former national chief rabbi himself. In 2010, Yosef said in a speech: “Goyim [non-Jewish people]were born only to serve us. Without that, they have no place in the world.” The funeral of the immensely popular and powerful elder Yosef was the largest-ever in Israel’s history, drawing a whopping 800,000 attendees.
...
Hammer told Alternet that he was spurred to action after a top rabbi of Chabad, the largest and most powerful Jewish religious sect in the world, backed a book called Torat Hamelech that argued that Jewish law permits Jews to kill non-Jews, even infants, under the pretext that they may one day grow up to be enemies.

----

The religious craziness of some extreme rabbis is disheartening. Its nice to see somebody starting to question the Israelie government's playing footsie with these types.

Just a terminology alert: "Conservative" is the name of a Jewish sect, and should not be used to refer to the rabbis in question, who are generally in the 'Orthodox' or 'Ultra-Orthodox' sect. The 'Conservative' sect is more conservative than the 'Reform' sect, but not as conservative as the 'Orthodox' sects. A gathering of Conservative Rabbis recently issued a statement that denounced racism and established the equality of all.

In Israel, both the 'Reform' and 'Conservative' sects are under attack by the 'Orthodox' sects. Israel is dominated by the Orthodox, (though they might not be a majority) while the Reform and Conservative sects are more dominant in the United States.
