Any Jap Anime fans here? I've a desire for something substantive, but may have watched everything good?

I can't be the only one here who watches the occasional girly anime. 'Fess up, guys.
Nope, I like slice of life stuff too.

Dolphin, here's some shows I liked:

Angel Beats
Psycho-Pass
Death Parade
Gurren Lagan
Is it ok to pick up girls in a dungeon?
Saga of Tanya the Evil
Food Wars

I liked Death Parade very much.

Also the how Erased, which has time travel and consequence type stuff in it.

I watched Psycho Pass I think. Is that the one with the female detective attached to a detective squad and they all live in a future time where even your food is controlled to account for an exact calorie cunt and content and the antagonist is trying to get them to see how life was beforehand but with murder and such?

Is it ok to pick up girls in a dungeon? Sounds like it might be funny.

Yeah, that's Psycho-Pass.

Pick up girls is pretty funny.

I'll check out my crunchyroll and funimation queues tonight for more suggestions.

Did you ever watch Monster from quite a few years ago?

I tried Monster, yes. But I think I went into expecting horror like I wanted, something creature-y and dark, and it seemed a bit more weird than that.

I'll have to start a list from this thread, of ones I've not seen yet or maybe should try again based on what you guys said about it.

I just got done with Stein's Gate and altho it took a while to get good I really liked it. It was a bit different for a time travel "butterfly effect" type theme.

Psycho-Pass is everything Minority Report should have been. The questions it asks are more troubling, and then it sure the second half of season one asking you to look on in horror as this society slowly unravels under the weight of its own injustice.

Pretty much yeah. I liked it for all the dystopia, but then even as far back as Akira and Venus Wars, and probably a few older ones, we keep trying to get people to see they don't really want what they think they want. Yet still we have pockets and politicians and regimes a plenty f all these people thinking that to have safety we need uniformity and oppression and suppression of everything from art to music to independent critical thought.

Oh, another recent one was Heavy Object. In the future, building sized super tanks called Objects are developed. They can take a direct hit from a nuke and keep going, making all other military forces obsolete. At the start the main characters, an engineer and a soldier, are in trouble as their sides Object has lost the fight. The other side isn't satisfied with that, and starts to hunt down the support personnel. So they have to figure a way to stop an unstoppable war machine with just the resources they are carrying. They succeed of course, and are sent out to other areas around the world, where they have to figure out how to defeat other such weapons.
