Our Indian secularists are in a bind, therefore keeping silent:

Hindu Mahasabha activist Kamlesh Tiwari is in trouble for his derogatory remarks against Muslims and Prophet Mohammed. Angry over his remarks against the Prophet, about one lakh Muslims protesters gathered in Muzaffarnagar and demanded death penalty for Tiwari. Protesters under the banner of 'Ittehad-e-Millat' led by Maulana Khalid, closed their business here and demonstrated against the Hindu Mahasabha activist. Tiwari's comments against the minority community recently sparked angry reactions from the people. Many minority groups had protested against the activist in several areas in the state.
Meanwhile, no untoward incident was reported, police said.
The security has been tightened in the district.

In this case the insult was this man saying that Muhammad was the first homosexual in the world. Grave enough insult to come out en masse in the streets in force to ask for death penalty.
To stand up for gays or for rights of Muslims is the question facing Indian 'seculars'.

in another town in Rajasthan some hundred miles away a Muslim crowd shouted slogans in favour of ISIS.

Timeline:
The Finance Minister of India says the government is thinking about legalizing homosexuality (still a crime under Victorian penal law!)

A Muslim cabinet minister in one of the states answered back that homosexuality is going to be legalized because the RSS (the chief Hindu nationalist organization) are all gay.

Tiwari says Muhammad is the first homosexual.

Call for death.

Then cheers for ISIS.

Is the West going to take credit for this Muslim rage as well?

Fucking hell. I really hate the way that people keep trying to say that homosexuality and pedophelia are the same thing.

Mohammed liked raping little girls. That is not even in the same ballpark as liking to have consentual sex with adult men. Tiwari is out of line coinflating the two things. I disagree with the protestors that this rises to the "let's kill this guy" level of a mistake, but it's still a mistake which should be pointed out.

Where did you get that Tiwari spoke about pedophilia or conflated Ayesha's marriage with homosexuality?

I try to laugh but nothing happens.

You know who else has trouble laughing? Nine year old girls who get raped by creepy old men, that's who.

Don't worry, the rest of us knew exactly what you were referring to. The only thing worse than a bad joke is having to explain a good joke to people with little sense of humor.

So what's the bind? Standing up for gays is standing up for the rights of Muslims. Muslims have the same right to have gay sex and to blaspheme against the Prophet as everyone else; and Muslims have no more right than anyone else to stop people from having gay sex or from blaspheming against the Prophet. None of the rights of Muslims are getting infringed here, by Tiwari or by India.

sorry, but what exactly is specific background so that this becomes a good joke?

Sure for individual muslims. ;)
But when mass of muslims protest something it automatically becomes a matter of minority interest and the Hindu liberals grow anxious if by this they are somehow strengthening Hindu fundamentalism.

In this case both think homosexuality is bad but since it is about Muhammad and one million muslims protesting -- Well!

There are a lot of Christians who argue against homosexuality by saying it's the same thing as pedophilia. When you made a post about a known pedophile being called a homosexual, I made a play off of that concept pretending that I interpreted their statements that way.

I don't know if is call it a good joke. Someone mentioned Mohammed and I threw out a pedophila comment. It was lazy and obvious humour which merited a light chuckle at best.

If the choices are a poster who makes slightly off-color but on-topic jokes that are slightly funny,
or
someone who twists every single thread around to his push button topic,

I'll definitely go with the soft chuckles vice repeated groans.
