Roseanne Reboot

Saying a person is an ape is nothing more than a statement of fact. I'm an ape, so are you, we're not sure about Tom Sawyer though.

Which is as idiotic as saying that firing a gun at a cop is "Nothing more than an object moving through space".

Words and actions don't exist in vacuums, but in a context that determines what they actually are and what they mean about the people who produce them.

If a person simply thinks that all people are apes, then they would never bother to point out that a particular person is an ape. Thus, showing beyond any doubt that she does not view everyone as an ape and thus was not merely making a statement of fact and doesn't even understand that it is a fact.

Huh? I am not invalidating anybody's experience. But why should my experience be invalidated? When a white person and black person have a different opinion about race and racial relations, why is the black person's experience automatically assumed to be the correct one? Why are white people accused of racism whenever we have an opinion of race that in any way deviates from self-flaggelation?

I refuse to self-flagellate myself for something done centuries ago by people who kinda-sorta looked like me. Such collective assigning of guilt based solely on skin color is the very root of racism, not an antidote.
What is that pic from?

Thus, to her and her fellow Trump fans, pointing out that a person is an "ape" is intended a racist insult implying that, like apes, people of that race are lower and inferior. The fact that she unwittingly used a scientific fact as part of her intended insult, just means she is a moron in addition to being a racist (which most racists are).
But she didn't say that "people of that race" are anything. She referred to an individual, like when people compared Bush or Trump to an ape.

Such as the woman who looked forward to Melania being in the WH, rather than 'that ape in high heels.'
Aren't both of these female apes fond of high heels?

Wow, the apologetics is just cra-cra. First, it was there never was a centuries-long insult fest calling blacks monkeys and other assorted non-human primates. Then, Roseanne's not being racist against blacks, just Arabs. Then, oops, I meant Iranians. Next, no she thought she was Jewish. Now, it's saying someone looks like they're an ape in Planet of the Apes isn't an insult because humans are apes, too, therefore all the apes in Planet of the Apes were humans. Holy Fuck. To quote, Charlton Heston, "it's a madhouse!"

Careful. Iranians tend to be touchy when mistaken for Arabs.

It's not that it wasn't meant to be an insult, it's that it wasn't necessarily meant as an racial insult.

Now, I am aware of the history. But, we will never move past that history as long as we are perpetuating it.

No, what you want is for people to forget history to remove all context.

Calling an African American and "ape" or "monkey" is a well-known racial slur that goes back to colonial times in our country. Racists know this, and they use it intentionally for that purpose. Technically, humans belong to the hominoidea family of primates, which includes all the apes. However, the racist trope was in common usage well before that was known to be true.

So the Rosanne show will be rebooted as The Connors. Roseanne is now dead as far as TV is concerned.

We don't know yet how they will deal with the corpse. John Goodman was actually killed off once. In her case, they could just use a mannequin that talks or some such thing.

That's also a good idea for a spin-off: a racist mannequin that doesn't die.
