The Shooting of Alton Sterling

Meanwhile, THIS GUY may possibly be disciplined by his boss...

Because actually pointing a gun at people with your finger on the trigger is, "meh," it's not the gun that's a problem, it's something else...

So, I'm not sure how this bolsters your argument. This guy was taken into custody.
Too bad Tamir Rice wasn't taken into custody.

I thought this thread was about Alton Sterling?

I have seen enough police videos where they start aggressively subduing a cooperative suspect in such a way as to get involuntary motions or reflexes out of the guy and then yell stop resisting at the flailing while pounding away.

I am extremely skeptical at all resisting arrest claims.

I agree.

Both officers at the store were wearing body cameras and cars had dash cameras, McKneely said. Muflahi said police also took surveillance footage from his store and seized his entire video system.

McKneely said both body cameras came loose and dangled from the officers’ uniforms during the incident.

Coincidence? Let me guess, the dash cam was turned off.

They shot him while laying face first into the ground with two officers atop him.
That doesn't show whether the shooting was justified one way or another. If he continued to struggle and police though he was going for his gun (which he carried illegally btw) than the shooting would still be justified.
In any case (even if the shooting proves to be unjustified) it's never a good idea to fight with police.

CNN's news story states that the Cops removed the gun from his pocket. He was thus, disarmed. Then shot.

The CNN article indicates 5 possible gun shots. That seems extreme.

I am more than willing to believe it could pop off in a struggle. Audio is still worth a lot in this case, especially if they have multiple video streams to sync with.

I have a hard time believing that. It'd be murder at that point.

I thought it was after they shot him.

Looks like they said they have "usable" video.

He said the officers then used a stun gun on Sterling at least once before shooting.
Both got on top of him, and one ordered him not to move, Muflahi said.
The one closest to Sterling's legs yelled "gun," he said, and the shots followed.
Just five minutes before, he walked into the store getting something to drink, joking around, (and we were) calling each other names.
Abdullah Muflahi, owner of the Triple S Food Mart in Baton Rouge
After the shooting, Muflahi said an officer reached into Sterling's pocket and pulled out a gun.

Also indicates the gun was in his pocket--not in his hand. Isn't LA an open carry state? How is this not murder?

La is an open carry state and pockets don't count as an open carry.

I watched the video and it appears to be clumsy policing that crosses the line of incompetent. The 911 call reported a man with a gun. The officers had every reason to think he had a concealed weapon, but chose to wrestle with him before determining if he was armed.

I've watched enough cop shows to know this method is stupid.

So he seems to have knocked a cop to the ground right before the shooting. Not a very smart thing to do to a cop who has a gun pointed to your chest.
CNN is very one-sided on this. Interviewing only Alton's supporters like his aunt and the family shyster, using only family provided photos rather than his mugshot, not talking about his criminal record or the fact that he was on probation and thus not even allowed to have a gun. Also, when they talk about the sale of CDs they never talk about whether it was legal (I strongly suspect they were bootleg).
Also, what about the baby mama, Quinyetta McMillan? They have a 15 year old. Was she underage at the time of conception? Is she the one he has a sex offender status because? (he would have been 22 at the time, how old is/was she?)

Also indicates the gun was in his pocket--not in his hand. Isn't LA an open carry state?
He was on probation. He was not allowed to have a gun anyway.
How is this not murder?
He seems to be struggling with the police (he knocked one of them to the ground). He was armed. I do not see how you get to murder from there. Of course the family and the shyster are looking at a big payout (preferably before the investigation is even complete) a la Freddie Gray. I mean if Baltimore held out until the recent acquittals they would have had a much better negotiating position. I mean the family didn't even wait until Alton's body was cold to get themselves a lawyer. And they also got a black supremacist from the Nation of Islam to spread hatred at their press conference.

Jesus, Derec, I am occasional asshole and antisemite and even you are getting tiresome to me...

That shit in your post is not germaine at all. We have the video now, talk about it or stifle yourself.

Actually the 911 call was anonymous - is there actual evidence he was 'brandishing a gun at someone'?

How did the caller know Alton was armed in the first place? Did he know him, did he get lucky, or did Alton really brandish a gun at somebody who complained about him selling CDs (presumably illegally). I guess the chances of finding that person are pretty slim unless they used their own cell phone or come forward.

What do you think is not germane?

Who care what happens with his family after he died or what he did a long time ago. He did his time for that.

What matter is what the cops did. There needs to a grand jury empaneled that has ZERO influence from the police or DA of the city. Every time the police kill someone in murky circumstances it should happen.

If this happened it would take all the wind out of the sails for protests. This would be great. Less destruction of property and less bloviating from armchair assholes like us.
